tl;dr: a new esports org called Tempo Storm offered some high level TF2 teams for an Overwatch sponsorship, but the deal was turned down
Pretty interesting, since some orgs know about high level tf2, and it looks risky to try to get a team without knowing how it'll play out
Thoughts?

tempo storm isn't a particularly new org, they have teams in hearthstone and hots so it makes sense they would want to get into overwatch

It has happened in Brazil. Last year a brazilian org (AceZone) approached MONSTER because of Overwatch, but the beta took too long to start and they gave up

2-year-contract. If the game gets big enough and they get good enough at it, they will be locked into a shit contract for 2 years. It's a risky move for both parties, the players just don't want to risk it.

If Overwatch is as big as people are thinking it could be then that contract was pretty awful. If you look at CS:GO most teams have salaries now so signing on for 2 years without one could fuck them over in the long run
how many times can i get ninja'ed today fuck

Ye TS isn't new by any means, they had an NA Invite CS team a few months ago, and they sponsor Axe and Westballz in melee
It just really bothers me that orgs are trying to sponsor teams already when the beta hasn't even happened, let alone the full game. Like I understand tf2 is supposed to be similar to OW, but shouldn't you want a team that's proven good at OW?

I think before any TF2 teams prove themselves to be good at OverWatch, the game itself needs to prove to be a good competitive game in the first place, haha.
This kind of a move seems less like putting the cart before the horse, and more like putting the schematics of a prototype cart before the horse.

From what I understand, the risk that the org aforementioned (Tempo Storm) is taking is not very big, with potential to give them a lot more than what they've risked, so even if the team/the game doesn't turn out to be successful, they wouldn't lose that much.

it's still a risk they're taking that could be severely mitigated by waiting at the very least a couple days until the beta releases, instead of reaching out to teams that have only proven themselves in a completely different game. Not to discredit 4g or reason, but they're still tf2 teams, not overwatch teams.

even if overwatch is a bad game, you know for the beginning of the game's life cycle blizzard is gonna pump some of that $$$ into trying to get it started

Locked into a 2 year no salary contract isn't really getting a lot.
Imagine if a CS team had locked into that 2 years ago when the game was still small they would be kicking themselves.

no, no it's not. It's only used informally in and around North America. Americanisation =/= proper English word

2 year contract? That's pretty insane, especially for a game that hasn't been released yet.

owl literally sits with tf.tv open on at least 2 different devices, everytime he stops to breath he refreshes tf.tv and has every subforum on the sidebar.
this is only very slight exaggeration, might be once every 1-2 minutes.

I'm quite surprised to see this happen as I am quite a fan of Tempo Storm and Reynad. I find it very interesting that an org as big as them would recognize TF2 players at all, so I see this a bit of a positive. But yeah definitely not the greatest deal. But I think when and if it happens where TF2 gets MM and more support for competitive, Overwatch and TF2 are pretty much near competing games that would be interesting to see.
