Almost as bad as getting an ad to buy a blizzcon ticket.
Literally the only email i got from Blizzard for over a year and it happened the same day as the invites.

I don't know how I feel about a comp scene before the game even comes out. Seems like it would make it almost impossible to break into if you weren't in the initial wave to network and practice

mfw people try to start a comp scene when there's 20 people total playing, 10 of which are streamers that aren't going to be playing in a week.

dirty bomb had tournaments before it was out of closed-beta that's not that strange.

just because theres a precedent for it doesn't mean it makes sense
in addition was dirty bomb's closed beta as stringent as overwatch's?
Edit:
Also I don't think its a bad idea for tournaments to be held in beta since it can really test the waters for the meta and identity problems. I just think that people shouldn't put too much faith in them in regards to the viability of the game or how the meta will be played considering how small the player pool is especially considering a large part of is casual streamers.

If anything they'll have a DM advantage, balance/meta will probably change crazy within beta and after open/release. And if you can start comp tf2 now and get on par with guys with 10000 hours more comp experience, you should be able to git gud at overwatch too.

most games have tournaments in closed beta, but this one does seem rather fast especially considering the number of people that aren't streamers that appear to have gotten in (there is no hard data on it so I am hesitant to say that the majority of players are streamers, but it does seem like there are far more streamers relative to players so far in Overwatch than in most games in closed beta anecdotally)

The game is going to have a lot of money involved; it's as simple as that. Blizzard hasn't even officially sponsored anything and you have eSports organizations trying to get teams playing Overwatch (i.e. Dirty bomb's #1 team PkD is moving to Overwatch). If you're a competitive enough FPS player that you want to become a pro this game is shaping up to be worth the time.

they gave us servers to use, the devs always had full support for the comp scene (main reason they decided to make a mm system + execution game-mode to bait cs players lol) im not aware of how strict blizzard is, i mean dirty bomb still won't give us access to have our own servers. They do the same thing as OW with the private servers.

This really puts me off from the game. I mean at this point I play games for the competitive side of it alone, very rarely I play just casually and if I do it certainly isn't FPS's. And having a few selected people gain advantage and also networking with possible teams / orgs before all us "plebs" get to try it its just such a huge turn off... You know in 4 or 5 months when most people eventually get to play the game (if we do) the top of the competitive scene will already be a circlejerk hard to break through.

How can you guys have this mindset while spending tons of your free time advertising the competitive scene of an 8 year old game? By that logic, getting into tf2 would be absolutely impossible at this point.

Getting into high level tf2 is quite difficult, nobody denied that. If you want to play invite but don't know any circlejerks you will need to spend 1/2 seasons just to get an invite roster and then you will need to find a few pretty good players who aren't already on a team. But at least that is justifiable because the game has been out so long.

Getting into the higher level of TF2 isn't as hard as it used to be some time ago because the level of competition is generally lower and a lot of new players are given the chance to make it to invite as specific rolls need to be filled all the time within teams. For example, invite lacks demos and medics, if you ever want to make a team that can challenge top 4, those are the hardest classes to find.
Getting into Overwatch shouldn't be as hard as the game has a really capped skill ceiling from what I can see so far. If Blizzard updates the game constantly I think it can be really competitive, but so far it just seems a really good pub game.
