barney_burgerbeansI'm assuming there's really no significant difference, but.... is there? I swear dx95 feels smoother than dx90 or 91 but it might just be a placebo.
Do a benchmark? I wanna know this too

I don't understand where people, such as b4nny, get this idea that dxlevel 91 is a real thing. 91 does not exist so it therefore aromatically puts you on the nearest existing level, being 90.
If you don't believe me: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=1040-JWMT-2947
Also if you put "mat_dxlevel 91" into the console on the menu screen, wait for it to change, and then type "mat_dxlevel" and hit enter, it'll say 90.
And yes, the higher graphical settings you have on, generally, if you don't have a potato for a computer, it'll feel smoother, even if your fps is lower. Try it out if you don't believe me, but I'm sure you've seen it: http://www.teamfortress.tv/30651/boost-fps-with-this-one-simple-trick

Because thats not how you change it, mine says 91
I've done it both through launch options and console, both gave me the same result. Pic please?

Hugges meant pressing enter after that so the console will print your actual DirectX level, which according to them will still be 9.0 regardless of setting it to 9.1. I believe if you just type a command in console, it will just autofill to the last value entered for the command(and mat_dxlevel is probably in your launch options).

There. And no, there is no dxlevel / mat_dxlevel in my launch options or command entered in console

When I switched from 80 to 90 because of the Match make announcement it was a weird transition of dx 90 being smother and it felt faster but it could be a placebo and or me being disappointing that i have to leave my love of dx80
It would be interesting to see some frame time benchmarks that compare different dx levels and settings.
I still maintain dx80 was the smoothest feel but maybe I'm just nostalgic
if i put dxlevel 95 or 98 i have like a weird black thing?
please help

necroing 2 threads for the same question without even providing the right information. And neither thread has to do with the problem you have. nice

What black thing? Need to be more specific. Screenshots please.
Some people see black weapons/props. I think mat_bumpmap(?) is the cause of that. Not sure if that's the command but I don't feel like digging for the right command when I don't even know what the problem is

lawsssi have black weapons
Solution 1: mat_mipmaptextures 0. Be sure to look at your graphics cfg if you use one and change it there
Solution 2:
alias weaponfix "mat_managedtextures 0; mat_managedtextures 1; hud_reloadscheme; snd_restart"
bind [key] weaponfix
(Put both commands into your cfg, replace [key] with an actual key so you can use it in-game. This command should lag your game for a bit if you press the key you bound it to but after that it should hopefully be fixed)
I don't have this issue so I have no way to test if these actually work but they've worked for others in the past apparently
