How do I turn off this gong after I kill someone?
It's not a svpure whitelisted file. pretty sure you cant :(
The patch notes say it can be toggled in the advanced options. I don't actually have the update yet so I can't confirm but I'd check there.
Update- Added a "Last Hit" sound option to Hit Sounds
- Triggered when one of your attacks causes the death of a player or building
- Can be toggled in the Adv. Options menu

you can toggle off hitsounds but not specifically the last hitsound
make a copy of your hitsound and rename it killsound and set tf_dingalingaling_last_effect 0
msh_make a copy of your hitsound and rename it killsound and set tf_dingalingaling_last_effect 0
This worked for me, thank you.

The local version got moved to a vpk file with steampipe so you can't get it without using something like gcfscape to open it

silent killsound.wav file should make no kill gong sound.
silent killsound.wav file should make no kill gong sound.
it's not properly working on sv_pure 2 servers. however, the length of the custom killsound.wav file does influence what plays:
anything longer than ~138 milliseconds reverts to the stupid gong sound, and anything shorter or equivalent makes a retarded bleep
a silent killsound.wav & a completely empty .wav file also causes a retarded bleep in sv_pure 2 servers, and at best causes no sound to play when you kill someone on sv_pure 1/0 servers (that is, not even your hitsound plays).
what is the purpose of not whitelisting killsound.wav?

if you use one of the default hitsounds you can just set the same one for last hit and normal hitsound
edit: jk i think it's a slightly different sound listen to the other people's suggestions

update rolled out adding a toggle box to turn it off if you want to.
rename a file to killsound.wav and put it in a folder under tf/custom with your hitsound.wav file if you want a custom one
enter tf_dingaling_lasthit in console to see a few volume/pitch options you can use with it enabled, if you want to tweak it.
