I recently received a windows 7 upgrade disc I bought for myself, thinking I could use the key and have my current version be validated (I'm using the trial or what not, asks me for a key every time windows starts up). I'm fine with this, but I have a lot of stuff I would prefer not spending hours downloading again (steam games, movies, etc.)
I don't have an external hard drive at the moment or a cd reader so I currently can not use the disc or backup everything to one hard drive and put it back on. I was wondering if any of you know a way to validate my windows without re-installing, or some way to re-upgrade windows and use the key without losing all of the content on my computer.

Why not try somewhere else/asking on Windows support or an OS forum? I'm sure there's a lot more people who could help you there rather than bumping it here.
A few sites are mydigitallife, sevenforums, and of course Microsoft. Microsoft does have a support posting place, although I bet google would honestly answer your question better/faster if you know what to search.

what you could do is upload important things like your maps folder and configs/huds to a place like mediafire so that you can re download it all in one heap but other then that i think you're fucked.

If you're not worried about piracy laws you could download a program that turns the trial copy into a full one. Other than that I have no specific suggestion. Browny's got the right idea.
