going to college is significantly better than going to high school, even if you're taking the college class at high school (which i did)

my grandmother dropped out of highschool and literally shoveled shit for 50 years and now has to live on less than $1,000 a month

my father dropped out and works construction for less than $40k(probably closer to $30k) a year

whatever your problems in school, none of it is worth working minimum wage for your entire life.

I dropped out of highschool to work on my business.

I wouldn't recommend dropping out unless you have an incredibly good reason. Chances are, you don't. If you don't have an immediate plan that will take you further than a highschool diploma would've, don't do it.

i dropped out to play tf2

jokes, but honestly, I wish I accepted help sooner than just finally choosing to drop out. I wasn't in a good spot and I felt bad for the people trying to help me so I finally dropped out. I went to a new school the following school year into an alternate schooling program. It wasn't for me but it was too late for anything else so I've kept with it. I'm finally graduating this year and that's something I did not think would happen three years ago.

What sucked the most for me was not graduating with my peers. It felt more alienating, knowing I was taking an extra year to finish things. I finally got over it, though. The most important thing to do is try to take as much out of school as you can. I know it's not for everyone, trust me, but trying to make it a more pleasant experience for yourself will go a long way. If not, look into other options. I'm sure your city has something for young people to do their schooling.

good luck, I hope you the best

Don't drop out unless you commit to getting your GED. Unless you have some business or opportunity that pays very well and you think will be stable.

Nothing wrong with dropping out of highschool but if you don't a) go back to finish or b) get a GED or equivalent degree you're just fucking yourself. No way around it.

no i mean just sign up for college classes and go to a local college instead of highschool, and have them count for both transcripts

every school system I've ever heard of does this and it's great since college classes count for 2 periods each.

nobelharvardsI strongly recommend you wait at least say, 2 weeks.

ive been thinking about it for at least 3 months, and talking to my therapist and counselor and parents. my dad was the one that initially floated the idea, in light of everything that's happened with school for like the past 2 years

MaxHaxGet that GED though.

You really really shouldn't be dropping out of high school unless it's absolutely unbearable for you or you have a really good reason. Just tough it out for however many more years you have and fuck college or take a year off if you need to.

The honest truth is completing high school says "You can complete something." It's not like a high school education says "you speak well, can do basic computations and have a rudimentary knowledge of historical and social happenings." like it used to.
If you genuinely, like 200% think life as a line cook will pay the bills down the road, go talk to line cooks at other places. It pays the bills, but it can be terrible. You are ALWAYS an at-will employee, and no matter how good you are, you can be replaced. You could go for culinary, but it's easier to do that with a diploma.

The only legit High school dropout excuse story I've heard was that someone from my school knew how to code the actual jailbreaking software for iPhones and got a job at Apple for it. He would bring a laptop, a Model M keyboard, and multiple generations of iTouch and iPhone devices with him in the halls to class almost every day.

dropping out of college to pursue 6 figure job/business/whatever is ok, you just go back if it doesnt work out

dropping out of high school for pretty much any reason is a pretty awful idea. i legitimately cant think of a realistic situation where im like yeah, dropping out makes sense.

edit: doing the drop out to GED into college route isnt awful, but dropping out with no plans to further your education is unless you have an already massively successful business/invention or a job opportunity making 6 figures.

long story short there's actually no benefit nor reason to.

Basically this. I can't in good conscience recommend that anyone drops out of college.

Is there a reason you are dropping out? Because not wanting to finish school isn't a reason for dropping out of fucking high school.

It's going to come back to bite you in your ass later. If you lose your job, which is almost a certainty sometime in your life, you are going to have to explain to any potential employers why you didn't finish high school. I'm just going to be blunt with you but if HR sends someone to me to interview and their only explanation for not finishing high school is that they didn't want to, they are automatically getting crossed off.

I might sound like a dick, but not wanting to finish high school just sets off so many red flags in my head.

Listen dude, Semior Year of high school is the easiest thing in the world. Plus, if you don't plan on going to college then the only thing that can be stressful about senior year is out the window. Wait it out and coast through your last year of high school, seriously
