Hey there. I've had a R9 280x for about 2 years now and I've started to get some crazy artifacting on my main monitor when I'm on the desktop but not when I'm in game so it's alright for now but I'm feeling I want to move on from this card as its given me a few issues over the time I've had it. I'm sick of my room feeling like a furnace as well so I'd want this new GPU to run reasonably cool. Also tf2 is the only game I play at the moment so as long as it can run tf2 at 144Hz I'm not too fussy. Can I get some recommendations please? Thanks.

wait for amd's polaris 10 gpus if possible, cheap cards with better performance than current high end nvidia gpus

If you don't have integrated graphics just buy a used one for cheap that will last you till polaris

For just TF2 integrated graphics should be good enough anyway if your CPU is somewhat recent.
Since it's only two weeks now Polaris is definitely worth waiting for.

Artifacting usually happens due to overtemp conditions when gaming, not while on the desktop. Have you updated drivers/checked temps on your current card??

It's sure easy to wait for new cards if what you have now is working properly.

I've updated all the driver, first thing I tried. I guess the card just got fried at some point. I got some new fans just before the card broke but I messed up the directions of the air flow so it was taking air in the top and then straight out the back. Fixed the fans now but i think its too late for the card. RIP

my motherboard doesn't have a higher than 60hz output so that is something to think about if you want to run off integrated graphocs

you got new gpu fans or chassis fans? cause if it's the latter orientation doesn't really matter too much and it surely won't fry a gpu..your pc will simply shut down if the gpu passes the safe temp threshold or thermal throttle. try running some ram stress tests\benchmarks or memory diagnostic tools (windows memory diagnostic is integrated in win) or check motherboard temperatures\health (search for it on google). either ram or motherboard faults can cause weird issues sometimes difficult to diagnose. if that's the case you might save some $$$ gpu can get expensive ehmm....coff coff 1080..coff coff
