They allowed the discussion when it was mostly people assuming it was some christian redneck, prompting gun law discussion. When the FBI stated they have evidence the shooter has ties to radical islamist groups, they locked and removed the thread, created a new one and started removing every comment mentioning the world 'islam' 'muslim' or 'censorship' because it doesn't fit their agenda

I really wish I was there to donate blood or help in any way. This is one of those things you'll never forget about, and you'll know exactly where you were and what you were doing when it happened for the rest of my life. I know I live in Canada, but stuff like this makes me terrified for my life especially given all of the shit that happened lately.

not really. In 2016 its more dumb than 1990 or especially 85 but to say that its unfounded is wrong. HIV that slips through a blood test and gets into donor blood can lead to hundreds or thousands of people getting sick and shake the trust of the public in the healthcare system. The HIV rate in the gay community is substantially higher so that's why they're far more cautious. My uncle had HIV and his boyfriend was super into a lot of gay rights stuff but this like the one thing they conceded usually.

id also like to point out that tons of people who aren't gay aren't allowed to donate blood for things that are even rarer or stupider

If you were in europe in a certain time period you're not allowed to give blood for example

it's an old mindset of "well they used to decades ago, so they might now!", forgetting that

a) the "contamination" was because of the same HIV epidemic that was heavily quelled thanks to safe sex
and
b) HIV's fastest spread rate wasn't because two dudes just magically seemed to connect viruses, it's specifically because of anal... which is something heterosexual people can do just as easily

their attempts of progressing it was just basically "well now there's a one-year period where it's ok after that" which still wildly misses the point

It's not homosexuals. It's homosexual men. It's not stupid; it's a public health measure. Like it or not, HIV rates among gay men are high enough to the point where the FDA has deemed it a necessary public health measure to have a one year deferral before they can donate blood.
