I've been playing for around 3 years now, with 2 years in comp. I've always really really enjoyed this game, but recently I don't have a passion to play. Just wanted to know what keeps you guys going and playing. thanks

whenever I get bored of looking at tf2 I change my hud or crosshair
also I want to be invite some day because I know tf2 is one of the easier e-sports to
become one of the best at due to the small pool of players at the top

because it's still fun to play + being on a team helps
I started comp late 2013 and I wanted to be the best medic in tf2. I don't feel like I can stop until I feel like I am.
watching high level play and the people around me getting better
I want to get really good at this game, it's one of the few I've felt a knack for. Not to mention that it's fun and there's so much to do with jumping, surfing, bhopping, and just playing be it pubs or comp
if you dont have fun playing just do something else in life youll be happier in the long run too
I made friends with the game, I dont like playing it alone anymore and if they were to quit I'd probably do the same.
I watched ruwin play scout in 2013 and he demolished everyone. Since then I just wanted to be one of the best scouts in the game essentially, I don't really think I'll ever stop trying unless something in my life is more pressing. Another thing Is, I haven't finished the goals I set out with this game and It would probably bug me and leave me unsatisfied If I just outright quit.
Plus, if you have a little free time to kill you could add up to a pug or play some DM or jump, I feel like TF2 is one of those games that I could always use to kill time If I have nothing else to do.

Sunk Costs fallacy. I've been playing too long to stop now.
Plus getting involved in newbie mixes and other projects, going to LANs and the friend's I've made over the years.
And the fading but still lingering hope of making invite some day.

Nothing better (or even close) has came out in the 9 years since TF2's release. I see no reason to stop playing until somebody one ups it which is looking like it may be a while.
I have an obsession to leave a legacy for my name everywhere I go, and this is a place I can achieve that.
its a video game, my motivation is i like video games
i'm not big into video games in general, the only games i have ever played outside of tf2 are just to play with friends or i find my self immediately bored It's really the only video game that interests me and i have it as a hobby
RainofLightalso I want to be invite some day because I know tf2 is one of the easier e-sports to
become one of the best atdue to the small pool of players at the topbecause everyone is bad
ftfy
edit:
as for myself I'm motivated to keep playing because it's fun and I enjoy trying to improve, but the real reason I've kept playing is the community
Jumping and pugging are also really fun but the biggest factor is that I feel like if I quit It would be really sad to lose contact with all the friends and people I've met over the years from playing the game

I'm not a keen gamer so TF2 is the only game i actually like.
Besides my work schedule is very odd (7pm-2am) then sleep at day due to family commitments so this game is a good way to make friends, since my chances to make friends irl are not great.

Leading a team is a big part of my motivation. It's actually the same irl, where I'm better and happier at work when I have autonomy/responsibility as opposed to being managed. My personality makes it difficult to consistently do things for myself, but if I'm responsible for a group of people and get to run things my way, it keeps me going. I try to set standards for the people I play with to keep improving, and I refuse to fall short of those standards myself.
Also, I put tf2 stuff on habitica, which is a site for managing to-dos, daily tasks, and habits. Habits that you set up with just a "plus," you can click every time you do them to get points, and they'll automatically get redder if you go a while without doing them, so you can keep track of how much you're actually doing. Here's a portion of my habit list, to show you what I mean:

overwatch scrims and how damn boring that game is after playing 30+ minutes of it competitively
ive tried to quit for the past year but i keep coming back to play harvest fast respawn for hours until i pass out. its literally like a dm server against bots
When I play pugs and stuff, 90 percent of the people are better than me, sorta gives me motivation to keep playing and improve so that i can keep up with them
To exact vengeance against those who shit talked me...
