never had it but ive always wondered how one comes to find out they have appendicitis

shit ton of pain in lower right abdomen, sometimes fever, vomit/nausea, leg pains, maybe more symptoms but I had those

Had mine taken out the weekend before last, terrible experience. I felt much better after surgery other than continued vomiting for the next few days. Good luck!

The pain was hellish before they gave me the morphine in the ER. The surgery is a pretty minor one assuming it's done laparoscopically for you, not too much to worry about.

As for recovery I felt like I could do most things again after two days and almost full function after four.

Yeah everyone I know who has had their appendix out has felt pretty great within 48 hours or so after surgery

Its not like a lot of other procedures where there's a rehab process or even a large incision to heal

I got mine removed in 2007, I had a large amount of pain in my right abdomen and I got it removed the next day. It was a lot of vomiting the next few days for sure

I had mine removed last summer. Only symptom I had was pain (slowly increasing over time). Had to stay in hospital for a while to recover, but it took only 5 days.

Yeah it's no problem, they just stick a long rod in ur butt while ur asleep ;)

It'll probably not even hurt afterwards if the drugs stay effective fora couple hours

I have a friend who almost died... He tried to ignore the stomach pains for weeks. He was hospitalized for like a month.... haha...ha.......

I went to the ER a few months ago for what i thought was appendicitis but all my docs thought i was just looking for opiates or something

I haven't had mine out, but it's just about the most commonly done surgery, so you haven't got much to worry about.

Mine ruptured, didn't have any pain until the night before it burst. Not very fun. Was in the hospital for 10 days, had pretty nasty pain for about a week or so, maybe a little less. Hopefully your hospital does a better job than mine and you don't have to have another 10 day stay for a bowel obstruction.

had mine taken out before it ruptured, and because i was a small kid at the time(5th grade) they were actually able to dissect it through my belly button. the anesthesia knocks you out in less than a minute, and you won't feel anything. i just took a deep breath and told myself they knew what they were doing, good luck buddy.
edit: also what owl said is totally true, however you may find yourself not wanting to eat at first, but try to take little bits of food at a time and slowly over the next few days you will find your eating habits back to normal.

Laparoscopic procedures save you lots of recovery time (where they make a few small incisions instead of one large one, and remove it through the belly button).

My appendix went bad and I had it taken out when I was 18, luckily it didn't rupture.

ya that's exactly what they did, I'll spend the night here and should be out by tomorrow, there was no complications :)

i had mine removed 7 yrs ago and i threw up for a week straight not knowing what it was. then when we found out and went to the hospital, i had 3 incisions made and had to stay for a week.
my buddy had it done and left the same day like 2 years ago

My brother had his almost burst a couple weeks ago. They went to the ER and he was out the next morning, doing fine 36 hours after. Amazing that it has such a great recovery time. And you don't really have pain during the recovery, it's just aches and overall weakness.

i had both appendicitis and pneumonia when i had to have my appendix removed

had a fever of about 104, mad nausea, fades in and out of consciousness, and vomiting, not to mention god awful abdomen pains. literally feels like someone is twisting a knife into your stomach. appendix ended up bursting, so that was fun.

apparently it was a miracle i was healthy enough to survive the operation since i was so sick

The pain from appendicitis can manifest itself in a lot of different ways - sometimes it's in the lower abdomen and sometimes it can be almost in the chest - some people even report it feeling like a heart attack. Any time you have persistent stomach pain it's a good idea to see a doctor. I've still got my tonsils and appendix for now tho so I've been lucky in that regard. I did get to sit in on an old school style appendectomy a few years ago (I was a dentist in Nicaragua for a month in college lol) - it was pretty interesting, They had to leave the wound to heal open because it burst as they were pulling it out so they couldn't stitch the poor guy closed because of the risk of trapping the infection.

do you mean like immediately after you wake up? for me i was in a daze and and didn't know where i was for 10~ minutes, felt really disoriented and i was on my stomach and unable to turn over. i also remember wanting a glass of water but i couldn't talk and i was getting really mad because i wasn't allowed to stand up

For my surgery I was completely out, Last thing I remember was the doc say 'bye bye time for a nap'
and the shitty part is they wake your ass up after a few minutes and yea it's kinda disorienting, albeit I'm sure they need to wake u to make sure you are okay but it would be nice to keep resting/sleeping

physically I feel very soar in my stomach area(where the surgery happened) other than that I'm feeling pretty good

Really depends on the kind of surgery you're getting and the anesthesia they chose to use. For my wisdom tooth removal they used an intravenous drug and I was brought up right after the procedure was finished but don't remember jack shit until I got home (except for getting super angry about needing help to get to the car)
