I was playing a pug and thought what if I had a weaker shotgun
for killing hurt players that also gave me a smaller than gunboats rocket jumping resistance?

you could then have the fun of both worlds if the weapon had the right stat balancing

The shotgun vs gunboats debate is good because it makes you chose between two styles, and it has trade offs for more finishing power or more mobility.

Giving both takes away all thought in choosing a secondary weapon and makes the game that much easier

if you're saying it would be overpowered, you could just weaken both sides of the stats until it was perfect

I'm not necessarily saying it would be overpowered, however the decision of "should i run gunboats or shotgun this life" adds a layer of knowledge and experience to the game that would make the game easier to play if removed. Maybe you run gunboats to a mid and for most fights, but when on the defensive or when you need the firepower you run shotgun.

Just having a mix of both, even perfectly balanced, would remove that decision from the game.

Yep. The reason we have 2 soldier 2 scout 1 demo 1 med is because its the most well rounded composition that can do well in pretty much every situation. This weapon is the 2 soldier 2 scout 1 demo 1 med of soldier secondary unlocks.

tbh, i would really prefer it if you just maybe nerfed gunboats by 15%, then give soldier another 15% self damage resistance.

I mean you CAN use liberty launcher for the self damage reduction and run shotty with it if you want. It's a big trade off but it can be useful
