I signed up, hopefully it'll be good, but I'm wary of whether Bethesda can pull this off.
Anyone have any thoughts on it?

Imo this will kill the game... As much fun as MMOS can be the fun in TES or Fallout is finding all the random and cool stuff buy your self, making it a MMO would just wreck the feel of the game. If they did like a 4 player co-op it would be better but im not so sure about having 15,000 or 30,000 people...

Just as long as there are no Cliff Racers, it'll be great.

do you know how ridiculously big bethesda game worlds are
if anything they'd be better with more stuff in them

is it even worth signing up if I haven't played any mmorpg, I guess I can lie but my mama always said to me that lying is bad.

Ever since TOR, I have no faith in any new MMO. Getting hyped only makes it hurt more.

I've played a lot of shitty MMOs and still found at least a slight amount of enjoyment in them...I've been an elder scrolls nerd for years now so even if it is inefficient as an MMO I can honestly say that I will probably still love it

I don't have much faith in an Elder Scrolls MMO, but maybe it'll be good. I signed up for it anyway just in case.

i think hes saying that bethesda aren't the best game designers. sure they can build interesting and wide open worlds to explore very well but the gameplay mechanics in their games are almost always lackluster imo

I agree with Khaki. More shit/features in the typically large TES worlds would be fantastic--and, of course, TES:O is going to be even bigger.
I prefer playing games like Fallout with a backseat gamer or as a backseat gamer. I honestly cannot see how companionship would ruin the experience at all.

Bethesda can't even create a better combat system - within a single player game - than Dark Messiah, a game that came out in 2006.
So I highly doubt their capabilities at creating a fun and innovative combat system for an MMO.

The main issue that I see is that they love huge environments. Being too large can hurt MMO's, see AC2.

I think determining if a game is too large or not is closely tied to how easy it is to immerse yourself into the game world + the game's fluff; in which case I think that's one of Bethesda's greatest talents

Dark Messiah had an awesome combat system, though. Game was buggy as fuck and the story was bland, but the combat was fun.
As for the topic, it's most likely going to be a fun but mediocre MMO and nothing special. After having ridiculously high expectations for Guild Wars 2 after all of the hype, the crushing disappointment was too much for me to play an otherwise decent game. That and the fact it was fucking nothing like Guild Wars.

Made a convincing statement as to why I want to play the living crap out of the game.

I dunno, all the latest MMOs have failed to hold my interest. WoW really ruined MMOs for me, despite all the shit it gets it was truly a great MMO.
I just hope the lore and awesome environments in the TES universe will be enough to keep me interested.

it's a stress test so it'll be a ton of invites
everyone i know in the closed beta says it's the biggest pile of shit they've ever played in MMO form, and it apparently will be subscription-based AND have a pay-to-win cash shop.

That's disheartening if true. Well, hopefully the beta testing will payoff in the end and they'll realize that being raging assholes is bad

Beta signups were open months ago. My brother got in the other day, still downloading as far as I know. He's put in over a thousand hours in Oblivion, Fallout 3 and NV each, will see how he feels about it.
I think having a partner or group could enhance the game. Immersion won't be there if you're not solo, but the game is still beautiful with probably the same really cool stuff you like to point out to and share with your friends.
