goto the steam folder and do a search for blob.

delete all of those files. no idea if this will fix it, but it's worth a shot.

are you launching from a desktop shortcut?

I had this come up when launching from it. Though it had separate launch options than inside steam.

Check if the hl2.exe process is still running in task manager and end it if it is. I've had it happen a few times where hl2.exe will be running despite no application being up.

This might also be an annoying solution though, sorry.

you are all wrong

This has happened to me twice this week. You have to go to your task manager and if you see hl2.exe and the gameoverlay up, end it, also you have to end Steam. Then launch Steam and TF2 should launch.

steam breaks until you restart it sometimes :( shit sucks

EDIT: So this has been happening since the new Steam update and I'm reading posts that this has been happening to people since they participated in the Steam Beta. This is a load of horseshit.

Only had this problem right after I updated stream yesterday.

download process explorer and search file handles to see if anything other than steam has the steam registry files open

if u running some bitch-made n00b antivirus add exceptions for real-time monitoring on the steam directory

edit: do the first one while the error is happening ofc

also i didnt realize this error is the reason u were always restarting steam remram if it happens to u tonight sometime lemme know if u wanna troubleshoot it we can do a join.me or something and try to figure out why ur computer is a bitch
