My pcs a piece of shit, a core 2 duo would have been fine back in the first few years of tf2, but can't run tf2 at a 60+ anymore. Will the fx 8320E be able to run tf2 120+ most of the time? I've been told am3+ is outdated. But I'm considering it since the mobo is like 5 dollars. Micro center by the way is where I'm getting the deal at. For thanksgiving and shit.

This benchmark has pretty neck and neck with recent Intel generations, but I would look for a benchmark thats threaded for quad core poorly, because thats what tf2 is.
If I were to venture a guess, I would say don't take it unless it's a hell of a deal, or you find a relevant benchmark that shows its good. AMD CPUs aren't exactly selling like hotcakes anymore, and TF2 is cpu bottlenecked mostly.

No, it can't run TF2 at 120+ fps.
And yes, AM3+ is as dead as socket can be. No new CPUs for 4 years (No, releasing the same CPU with a lower TDP again is not a new CPU), everything new will be on AM4.
Guess what, those CPUs are 2-3 months away now. So now is the worst time to buy an FX.
Bonus: TF2 uses 2 cores, a 3rd for other stuff and anything more does nothing at all. So a CPU with 8 "cores" that prioritizes multithreaded througput over single threaded performance is the worst possible choice.

Nah, the default question is "Budget?"
I'm guessing he wants to run TF2.

Athlon x4 845 is a great buy for a budget build to play tf2
AMD's Zen CPUs are coming out Jan 17 on the new AM4 socket. Just wait or buy a i3 6100 if you only care about TF2.
A fx-8320 will run TF2 with a average well over 120 fps but there will be frame dips thanks to TF2s poor optimization, multithreading, and gpu utilization.

After using AMDs for years and finally switching to Intel this year I doubt I'll ever buy and AMD anything ever again.
Honestly its not worth the time or money to try and play tf2 with AMD, at least if you have a 120Hz+ monitor.

I don't know how valuable my input is since I'm no expert or anything, but I have an 8320 and I can constantly push 150+ fps on most maps.
the Intel Pentium G4500 could be a decent pickup for tf2. I have an fx-6300 that can push 300 frames at low settings 720p, and the G4500 has better single-threaded performance. It also gives you a lot of upgradability in the future CPU-wise being on the LGA1151 socket, depending on the motherboard you pick up with it. It also happens to be about 25% cheaper new on newegg
Edit: I cant spell

300 frames when nothing is happening is irrelevant. My 8350 machine can have drops into the 80s on particularly badly optimized maps during mid fights or pubs when SHTF.

no, 300 in fights? I might dip down to 200 during uber trades or in 24/32 man pubs. Keep in mind I'm not playing at native 1080p and using a config. Using an r7 250, maybe that's where the difference is (even though this game isnt GPU intensive)
That's besides the point anyways, the Pentium would still be a very good price/performance option for tf2 compared to FX CPUS

FX-8320E is the same as FX-8320/8350, but underclocked to 3200 MHz. I have FX-8320 @ 4700 MHz and I get only ~142 fps with it (1080p, comanglia + very high textures), but when I underclock it to 3200 MHz I only get ~106 fps. I wouldn't recommend buying this CPU for TF2.
