Hey guys I like me games to look juicy but unfortunately my toaster does not. What are some cheeky things I can do to to make my game look nicer that don't cause me to drop too many frames.
Apparently when smoking marijuana people senses and pleasure are heightened and you get alot of pleasure when having sex with your mate because of the lighting and the mood, though it does not affect the orgasm, I've heard. So get some weed and make your monitor brighter, and it'll make your game look good :DDDDDDD
Get a crt monitor if you play on a low res because it makes the game seem way less pixelated

panda106buy computer with good specs
Due to life situations I can't get better hardware right now but christmas is looming...

I laughed as i read the title while saying
"Hah, if only it was possible"
"Hah, if only it was possible"
im gonna interpret this question as "what are some things i can do that improve fps in a large way but doesn't affect visuals too much"
- Turn off ragdolls
- Turn off gibs
- Run on dx 90 (the lowest dx9 setting)
- Keep textures and models high
- Use the standard misc stuff in comanglia's config (most of the stuff there you won't notice) but enable r_3dsky 1
[list]

Actually you should test this because it's per PC dependent. Test with 90, 95 and 98 and see what gives you most fps. Personally I have with 95, some people report it with 98, 90.. etc.
So I recommend this list of tweaks but that one is to test it yourself.

Highest quality textures (mat_picmip -1) give equal or superior frames. Most GPU-based settings like anti-aliasing and filtering won't give any gains by disabling or reducing quality either--you can try boosting whatever settings in your graphics driver suite to max and see how it goes without taking much of a hit, since TF2 is CPU-bottlenecked at almost all settings.
Remember to benchmark with timedemo after each tweak if you care to measure their impact objectively :)

hmm for some reason when i use mat_picmip -1 (i usually use 2) my game stutter like really alot, do you know anything about this? thx
edit : i have a toaster pc

Probably because it puts more strain on the graphics card instead of the cpu and if you dont have a gpu then unless if you can spare the cpu you just loose frames

CRTs are like free and they give better quality colors than 90% of modern screens
also they accept any low resolution you throw at em without making it look as bad as a non-native resolution looks on modern displays

What about eye strain? I looked at CRTs previously and people say they cause a lot of eye strain, and I can feel it with my regular monitor already.

its definatelly different than a normal monitor
i dont feel any eye strain using refresh rate of 75 Hz , some people need a bit more
75 Hz or 85 Hz is usually the default
if you use 1024x768 you can get to 100 Hz or more in most consumer CRTs

If your GPU is really old relative to your CPU you could start to bottleneck on that side.

I've found that setting r_lod and mat_picmip to 1 doesn't hurt as much as setting them to zero, but still gains a smoother base model/texture setting.

I don't believe that for a second, anti-aliasing makes my fps plummet
