RentQNcorsayoure actually trying to argue why 4:3 is just as "bad" as 70 fov 16:9. I honestly don't think that needs explaining.
Uhm I'm not.
RentQNWhy would you say that?
If you think 75 FoV is inherently bad, 4:3 is inherently bad aswell (less FoV aswell).
If you make claims like that without backing them up at all you just seem ignorant.
sorry, you're suggesting that if 75 fov is bad then 4:3 is too simply bc of fov

I never said that either is bad.
I only said that if the argument is that 75 FoV is bad "because you see less in your peripheral vision" then the same can be said about 4:3.
What I'm actually saying is that, if you wanna call anything "bad" to begin with, then 4:3 is worse than 75 FoV.

a bit off-topic, but when ratz instagib had somewhat of a stable population, the best player i knew on that game pounded hard on ~50 fov
and then you have people playing with rawinput 0 on tf2 that are natural slayers
THIS WORLD ISN'T LOGICAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mate just quit the arguing, everyone in this thread are trying to provide you with well thought out responses. Don't ask questions if you aren't willing to receive appropriate answers...

ok this thread is a total shitshow
what's the concensus on pros and cons for 4:3 stretched for hitscan
I like the way it looks but I don't want to be put at a disadvantage for using it

mmrarkteI like the way it looks but I don't want to be put at a disadvantage for using it
if u like the way it looks then use it
if u realize that u aim worse with it then switch back
it's not a massive difference it's mostly down to preference

Give me one example of an appropriate answers I wasn't willing to receive.
troyjesus christ u really just like arguing thats actually the worst
Without arguing you can never get a real answer. If you don't argue anyone can just say anything he comes up with on the spot and you'd have to accept it as fact.
I think it's childish when people can't have an argument without feeling it's a fight or competition of feeling the need to turn it into one or when they think arguing is a bad thing and shouldn't be done.

what exactly are you arguing? people who use 4:3 are telling you why they use 4:3, is that not "real" enough of an answer for you? how much thought do you want on a question that can seriously be answered in 2 words?

I use 4:3 and low res to get my monitor to a 75 refresh rate and an fps above 200. I also like the wider viewmodels.
The stretching of the screen affecting aiming is personal preference, and unstretched feels weird to me.
I'd rather be able to play the game than see a bit more of my surroundings and be unable to.

bearodactyli thought 4:3 sacrificed horizontal fov for more vertical fov whereas fov_desired 70 just decreases fov both vertically and horizontally
correct

He was saying it gives you more vertical FOV than fov_desired 75 (which it does as fov_desired 75 gives 75 vertical FOV and 4:3 stretched gives 90) but thanks for reviving the thread :)
