in this case, the story was broken in the very left wing, semi-credible buzzfeed news, and then the pseudo-respectable left wing media outlet CNN reported on the reporting, thus absolving themselves of guilt even though they were spreading the news

For another example of this exact same pattern occurring, see the swiftboat scandal about John Kerry in 2004- ultra-partisan outlets report the story, then the mainstream media reports on the existence of the story, that's always how it goes

CNN broke the story first tho by reporting that their were discussions in washington about a paper that lacked any verifiability

buzzfeed released the paper later

obama being a muslim not born in america (constantly said on fox news) is a really easy example that makes you look stupid for saying what you said

Ironically Trump was part of said movement up until only recently.

I understand that it lacked any credibility, but why would they even give it time on air? Buzzfeed is clearly at fault for publishing it, as established, but to me it doesn't seem like it'd be much use unless it's just more anti-Trump stuff that they're trying to put on the air
