BlakJakThank saam for ruining groups with invite teams
I'm not sure how to plan for teams forgetting to show up and cutting so many players mid tournament that their team dies.
If you have suggestions for those situations I'm all ears.

I guess this is a legitimate complaint. A lot of planning and thought went into this. When I was making the tournament and reaching out to teams about 2 weeks ago I talked to 3 or 4 high-IM teams who said they were interested in playing. Also this was before sandblast cut 2/3rds of his roster
meaning that him, fishes, and skull were all capable of losing games to IM teams. With 3/5 invite teams capable of losing to top-IM teams it didn't feel right to push them through groups, and it didn't feel right to give Froyo and EVL byes when they were in the same division as teams not receiving them.
Then none of the IM teams who said they were interested showed up and sandblast's roster got much stronger. With how signups ended up being I should have had all non invite teams compete for the last 3 spots, but I didn't have all the info on signups until 2 days ago really (and the final signup was like 4 hours before the cup started), and I was so busy planning other parts of the tourney that I didn't think to make big changes to the format.

Thank admins and everyone who helped make this possible. I look forward to seeing and playing on these maps in the future.
this is exactly why nobody wants to make maps for competitive. so much work and so many hours go into it, and when people like Father Brandon come along, who are very excited to get maps out there and are really willing and open to feedback, its upsetting to see how the community treats them. i get that people don't like the map, but by just leaving in the middle of the game, the mapper doesn't get to see organized play that will help them make it better. maybe if mario party 4 bothered to play or even look at the map before playing, they wouldn't have had such a bad experience.

sometimes maps are just bad...I appreciate the effort people put into making new maps but you can't really get upset if someone doesn't enjoy playing a map and calls it bad as a result.

They also had to deal with config issues which was my fault. I have to set all the cvars manually because they don't work right on serveme and the class limits were broken as well.

absolutely, but leaving in the middle of the match and forcing the other team to forfeit is kind of an asshole thing to do. just play the game, then afterwards say why it won't work and why its bad.
EDIT: i understand the config was broken, and didn't realize that team skull wanted to forfeit, my bad. i just dont want to discourage mapmapkers

Skull had the option to keep playing. They asked to forfeit, not mp-pros.

Ok 1st off we played the 1st round of the PL map with the wrong CFG and then we played the map actually the 2nd time. I don't mind the map and we played it with a different class line up. If we did not care to try the new maps we would of declined saams offer to play in the cup. The ENTIRE day yesterday we played the whole cup with the classic class line up and we all voted and gave our opinions with the google doc rating the maps. I feel if you saw that this was a 2 day cup and saw that we played most of the maps with a actual line up vs actual teams.

i hate to sound like an asshole, but this is a map that should just be scrapped
i like the experiment of the concept but theres 0 enjoyment in playing this map
cp_kalinka on the other hand is pretty fun, 2nd may need a design change in my opinion

I'm glad that you guys gave feedback, but when your teammates say things like this:
ding0d : this map is trash
ding0d : the creator should give up
it's kind of upsetting
dingo was talking about bagel btw

ok if youre going to be an artist, you have to realize when you should give up on a project and scrap it
you dont keep banging you head trying to tweak a map and try to make it viable
if the whole concept of the map is bad
you shouldn't be hardheaded and ignore criticism, people appreciate the effort you guys put in
dont get the idea that you are bad at what youre doing in your head
edit: as much as i like playing 6v6 the idea of having to 100% go against a sniper and other offclasses just remind me of gravelpit and we all know what happened to that
ALSO I DONT THINK HAVING A 1-5 RATING IS A WAY TO RATE MAPS THAT ARE IN DEVELOPMENT

dingo doesn't like how complex lobby is on your way to the point and i agree with him on that
but im sure if we had a proper survey system for rating the maps i can include what people on my team dislike about the map

The map threads are listed in the OP so that you can leave detailed feedback if you wish.

I appreciate the reaction. No one has treated me anything but fairly in a direct discussion. Perhaps people say the maps suck to each other and I am fine with that. I have been level designing for too long in general (not for TF2) to take every opinion on maps too personally.
I had the oddball maps going into the cup and I already knew how much people were opposed to A/D. I did not expect 2 engineers to be allowed on the Payload map though.
I always listen to feedback and I have learned a lot about what needs to be changed for the PL map from watching a match yesterday (I wasn't around today to watch any matches) combined with feedback from just before the cup. Menachem actually posted a video with super great feedback before the cup and I wish I could have instantly made the needed changes before the cup happened (I ended up working on the map while watching the cup).
Overall I appreciate the feedback I have received very much. Expect the next version of the PL map to be much more playable.

Nice to see you aren't disheartened. I think that the map has a good idea behind it.

Thanks to saam for basically organising basically everything to do with this tourney on his own, from signups to sponsors to servers. was super fun to stream some NA for once
Thanks so much Saam, Snivy, and anyone else who worked on this! Great to see the community support new maps. To those who played, I'm certain that all of us mappers would like to hear your feedback! Shoot us some love (or hate) in our threads which are listed in the OP :D.
Thanks to Saam. Also, props to Raburn for doing so much on the community end. This guy is really unrecognized and we should all take the time to thank him for his effort.

I don't know why you think this is funny, or an intelligent joke, but I literally have nothing to do with anything that goes on. I appreciate you not trying to make it seem like I'm taking credit for things I have nothing to do with, kthnx.
