Wall of text here, skip to below the line if you want to get to the purpose of this thread.
I remember, back when I was fresh out of Newbie Mixes, I found this pug group called New Map Weekends. Thought it was interesting, so I joined it. Never realized how much I would enjoy them. I wouldn't realize the importance of these pugs until later.
After they suddenly stopped in September, I started testing new maps with the people over at the Power Pugs group. While the admins are pretty great and were cooperative in the time I was admin there, the participants of the pugs were a mix. Some just wanted to troll, and others wanted to play Badlands/Granary. This really shouldn't happen, and part of the problem (I believe) was the fact that these pugs didn't have their own group. After my old computer died back in December and I could not play TF2 until Christmas, the Power Rangers removed my admin (I don't think I ever told them about my computer troubles to be honest...). However, this allowed me to reboot the old pug group. Thus, the Powerpuff Girls new New Map Pugs group was born!
----------------------------------------
A new group was suggested by Clandestine because he thought that using the old group is like bumping an ancient thread; there is really no denying he's right, it makes sense. So here is the new group:
http://steamcommunity.com/groups/tf2newmaps
The first session will be Saturday at 7 pm Friday at 9 pm EST. Maps are not decided yet, but we will play koth_manufacture_a6 (my map). I'll probably be looking for mostly alpha maps that can be more easily changed than beta or RC maps. Maps are cp_granary_pro, cp_wetcoal, koth_manufacture, ctf_turbine2, and cp_edifice.
These pugs should be treated as closely to scrims as possible. I can hear everyone saying now, "Then why don't we just scrim these maps then?" Well, I don't think most teams will bother. Maybe Invite teams will scrim new maps in the offseason, but it's unlikely even for them. So, be serious in these pugs please.
Every week, I will put the map downloads in my Mumble comment. I will also post them here and on the events.
Hope to see people on Saturday!

I remember the old "new map pugs" almost always had a good time, even when we'd end up with a really bad map. It'd be nice to get these going again.

We should revisit koth_sawtrainwindmill (windsawtrainmill?) or whatever it was called.

If you actually want to do this to see how new maps play and not just because it's fun to play in a new place, I suggest making each team run through the map for like 5 minutes discussing who will be doing what and where. Playing these without coordination defeats the purpose.

Looking forward to this, hopefully this will encourage some new blood into the map pool! :D

Please test Wetcoal. It seems like it has potential.
NMP was always fun to do back when it was up before. Gonna have to get back into it again.

anjirocoolsounds like fun!
It was fun originally, and I hope I can make it fun this time.
forgetsis this for 6s or hl?
6s of course, maps don't get tested for HL. They just get put in the UGC rotation.

Don't remember that one. I started playing after most others.

Current planned maplist is koth_manufacture, cp_wetcoal, cp_xenon cp_edifice (it's A/D), and ctf_turbine2.

<hooky_> Kalkin or Killing: Would you ever consider banning engy specifically for ctf maps?
<ESEA|Kalkin> hooky you're implying that we would run ctf maps
<ESEA|Kalkin> which we would not
<hooky_> why not
<hooky_> is there some embargo on ctf maps?
<ESEA|Kalkin> yes
<ESEA|Kalkin> ctf doesnt work in tf2
<ESEA|Kalkin> therefore we dont run it
now what do

It's going to be worked around Newbie Mixes and my schedule (I sometimes work on Fri/Sat from 5 to 8). I would have preferred a little later, but Vick couldn't tell me when the mixes were happening at that time.

We used to always start the old ones around 8 EST on Fridays and Saturdays, and I'm assuming this will be something similar.

I'd honestly prefer that, but I don't want this to conflict with the Newbie Mixes as both are important, and I'd assume at least a few players would coach for that.
The maplist is changing: cp_xenon is being swapped out, and replacing it is cp_edifice. This is due to the request of the creator of both maps. The author suggested Edifice as he "wanted [it] to be a better gravelpit."
Map pack won't be updated right now, as alpha 6 will be released soon (and apparently not an alpha 5, the creator apparently scrapped a5). The map pack will be updated then.

I'll take a look at it, but I'm stretching the schedule as is, as we need to be done prior to 9 ideally, unless Newbie Mixes happen on Friday.

It would be awesome if someone would stream this. I think seeing the discussion about why a map is good or not and how it can be improved would be great. Educational in a lot of ways.

I plan on streaming every second of it, despite my shit upload speed. Truktruk might do the same, with his significantly better internet connection.

I think saltysalty means that the newest version, with b4nny's changes, isn't at the OP, it's a bit below, at #28.
