someone posted this config of theirs in the linux gaming subreddit: https://github.com/mastercoms/tf2cfg
it has some opengl cvars (for mac and linux versions of tf2) that very slightly increased fps for me (as i run linux, don't try using them if you use windows)
additionally this config has some other cvars I have not seen before in this or rhapsody's config, I am curious if comaglia or anyone else knows if these actually affect performance in any way (my own testing makes me think the particle commands DO increase fps a tiny bit, but benchmarking is inconsistent for me)
particle_sim_alt_cores 3 //default 2
cl_particle_batch_mode 2 //default 1
// --- Filesystem ---
filesystem_buffer_size 32768 // keep files up to 32KB away in buffer
filesystem_max_stdio_read 64 // read more files
filesystem_native 1 // use native IO, which is faster
filesystem_unbuffered_io 0 // buffer IO, which decreases disk reads, faster

FAQ
Q: What is the best OS for FPS?
A: Technically speaking Linux, but for most users it's actually Windows 8.1
Q: How much time have you put into this?
A: Rough Guess? 70-100hrs Since I've kept keep track (May 14th, 2015) https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/11dA7_Fw0vkkHPN3emCmDyx6znBrtPJl4LDdrCTVm6rY/edit?usp=sharing
Q: My Game is stuttering a lot? (Laptop Users)
A: Add a FPS cap I typically recommend around fps_max 132
Q: Why is m_rawinput set to 0? (I've commented this section out)
A: Certain programs are not compatible with it, some OS's don't work well with it, and some people use alternative versions of rawinput that can't have this on.
Q: How/Where can I add you at?
A: If you can't figure this out you probably shouldn't add me.
Q: Why are my map textures strobing?
A: You're probably running an Nvidia card while in DX 8, either switch to DX 9 or in some cases update your driver.
Q: What does "x" command do?
A: I may or may not know ask below.
Q: I'm crashing a lot and I don't know why?
A: If you're not using my Stable or Toaster versions, odds are it's cause you have a below quad-core cpu OR having a DX 9 error OR you crashed when alt+tabbing and should take out -dxlevel from the launch options.
Thank You's / Credits
Chris - Without him NONE of this would've happened at least from me
Rhapsody - If he didn't post a config awhile back that I thought he messed up pretty badly on I probably wouldn't have released mine. That and he helped me with a lot of testing / finding some new commands.
The Regime / Moose - Without having played on this team or spoken with Moose I wouldn't have found this config, or had much reason to update it.
All of you - Reason why I still update this, and have decided to make more configs to fit a wider array of users.
Valve - For letting so many commands be user defined.

I didn't add Rhapsody's Config as he's setup his config in a way that's meant for users to edit it via certain key presses, so any benchmark I give for this wouldn't be true for all users.

http://www.twitch.tv/comanglia I have some highlights with using this CFG, you might even see it live.
Max FPS for Mid Quality PCs
Exactly the same as above, most of the commands I changed are related to threading in TF2.
Max FPS for Potatoes and Toasters (I upscaled these to 1080i just to give people an idea of how bad this really looks on most monitors)

Comanglia's Cinema Config
still need to make some screenshots; major difference between this and chris's maxquality, is significantly less fog and haze.
Valve - For letting so many commands be user defined.
meb - for making the TF2 Benchmark thread to give us a basis for improving on our configs

I'm certain it's something in this config, because my old config didn't do it (maxframes), but sometimes the game sound goes very stuttery and laggy, and sometimes it is paired with a feint buzzing sound. I use max stability.

snd_mixahead is in stability but not maxframes, it might be that. It's 0.1 by default, and 0.06 in stability. If it's too low sound gets fuzzy.

Hi here from the Philippines,my frames (with fps configs) tend to go unstable from 50 to just 15 and then go up and forth,is it because of the laptop heat?i have a very combustible mac but it does the job for just a minute until it starts heating up and causing the frames to lose,I remember the more active the pc will be,the more heat it generates, any solutions to the problem,I tried your Mid Pcs config and it really did help with the unstable fps but generates heat much more,I made a benchmark of my terrible laptop
OS:Macintosh
Processor:2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory/RAM:4GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics:NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256
Display Size(this might be the problem of my laptop):1280 x 800
the only thing i like in this computer is THE ONE TB of STORAGE.
Well I guess that settles that.

I have an issue on reflective textures, like the flooring on process spawn room and HQ 2Fort. It gives them the old checkered design, i'm running dx 95 so I want to know if there is a command that could be linked to it. Thanks in advance

Your laptop is likely scaling the performance down to try and alleviate the heat production. Limit your framerate or cool your computer better somehow. Game generally runs better on Windows/Linux than Mac OS, for what it's worth.
