Agreed, he wrote the book for 1v1 play and everyone was essentially playing catch-up and learning off him as they lost. There were only a handful of players who could stick with him and offer a real challenge.

Back then we were limited because of slow internet speeds. Thresh was a West Coast player and a lot of the East Coast competition was hard to play against on an even playing field.

I played against him and his clan (Death Row) several times back in the day in 4v4 matches but never 1v1. They were all powerhouse players with him Frick, D2, Reptile, unholy, etc.

I know people are biased against League here (and for good reason I hate League) but it has to be Faker. Supposedly he's the only pro player with a million dollar contract which is really hard to fathom.

probably universe (he has the most on that esports earnings website). Sumail is a good example of the opportunities in esports so I would say him too. If we are talking quake though then cooler. Faker is also a prime candidate.

fatal1ty was very good but it's hard to compare him to newer quake/dm players like rapha/cypher because it's just a completely different era. fatality was taking gaming MUCH more seriously than 99% of the other top players at the time, he was ahead of most players by sheer playtime/practice. After time, people would catch up to his skill ceiling and he'd just move on to a new game. at the time, there were new fps games popping up left and right that were being pushed for tournaments. this allowed fat to be extremely successful. I was around for the rise and fall of fat in q3. He lost twice to socrates at WCG NY and did not qualify for Korea, and then quit and played something else. don't get me wrong, he was an amazing player, but he did have an edge over others solely from his training regiment. He set the norm for how most "pros" prepare today. so i guess that's something in itself worth mentioning.

If by greatest you mean highest paid then apparently it's some American DOTA 2 player named UNiVeRsE who has made $2,802,796.47

I think it has to be flash, the combination of the difficulty of the game/scene he was involved in and his sheer dominance in a competitive era is hard to match

quake was too even for me to say cypher or rapha or anyone really outshone the competition, faker is just as dominant but in a less demanding game, none of the dota or fgc players really have that level of success over their competition, same with cs
