For the TF2 scene, froyotech is a team that has played a large part in shaping competitive TF2 to how we see it today. Simply being a part of the team will almost certainly reward any new member to the team with an enormous amount of experience and skill, not to mention notable top ESEA Invite finishes.
However, not all players that play with froyotech stay forever, as seen with former members over the past few seasons such as Freestate when he chose to retire from TF2, and garbuglio when he also stepped down after the team's announcement that they would not be attending i61 as a team, which he cited as one of his main goals to continue playing.
But just in time for the team's first week of league play, b4nny has unveiled that former pocket soldier botmode will be stepping down to pursue competition in Quake Champions. With the recent emergence of Quake Champions, and developer Bethesda's subsequent backing of the game as a competitive title, the game should certainly see a bright competitive future. Consequently, with botmode finding success in qualifying for both Quakecon 2017 and the upcoming Dreamhack Denver competition with his sacrifice team dubbed I Totem Teles, the now former froyotech soldier has elected to step away from competitive TF2 to focus on competing in Quake.
In botmode's place, former LunatiK eSports demoman sigh will be stepping up to fill in the vacant pocket soldier role. This is interesting since every team that sigh has played on in ESEA Invite has been on demoman, beginning with -bird noises- in season 21. In fact, froyotech hasn't had a pocket soldier remain for more than a season since seasons 20 and 21, where none other than b4nny was leading the team from that very position.
b4nny also commented on botmode's departure and the roster change for the upcoming season, saying:
Botmode’s recent successes in Quake Champions have required him to put TF2 on the back burner. Botmode certainly proved himself and put his amazing talents on display last season and collected a well earned first ESEA championship. While it is sad to see him go, (at least it’s not for Overwatch so) he still has our respect and we all wish him the best and hope to see him competing in TF2 again in the near future. But with his departure, we are forced to look forward and fill his shoes. In his place, we have picked up sigh as our pocket soldier. Most known for his wildcard demoman play in recent seasons, it may come as a surprise to see him rostered as a pocket soldier, but those who have been paying close attention have seen glimpses of brilliance from sigh on the class in Invite pugs and pugscrims. We are hoping that bringing him on board and giving him his first season on a serious high level team will help to mold him into a more refined player without sacrificing that explosive fragging power he wields. It has been shown many times before that suiting up under the froyotech banner can bring out the best in players, and I expect no less from sigh this season as well. Despite the change, as always, we are aiming to win S26 of ESEA-I.
Thus, the new roster of froyotech debuting in ESEA Invite tonight will feature:
- Scout: arekk
- Scout: b4nny
- Roamer: blaze
- Pocket: sigh
- Demoman: habib
- Medic: shade
