No comp changes. No sticky det fix. No optimization. Just skins, weak ass pub maps, some decent, and some questionable stat changes. Nothing interesting here.

i feel most of these changes suck due to utility creep clownery over 10 yrs (bonk, razorback, gru, base jumper) and unlock oversaturation.
the heart of most of these items gets lost through repeated attempts at convoluted balancing (amby, bonk, atomizer, etc etc). the wordage on these new changes is so dense and cluttered. meanwhile we have gunboats : -60% self damage at the cost of no shotgun.
this is why whitelists were necessary in the first place.
the root of the clownery i believe lies in the attempt to make off-classes less niche, when the opposite is what was needed. the point of a niche is not to muddle it down until it doesnt do anything, but make it thrive in those special situations.
tf2 was used as a development playground for too long. for there to be any chance at a big comp scene we need a new game with the same engine, and unlocks and classes with more surefooted, confident properties. top it off with sparkly new graphics and the casual playerbase will come flocking for nostalgia, and the comp players have a real home.

(also i want better maps)

I'm so so disappointed in this update. The balance changes were all pretty good but it doesn't matter if matchmaking is still an unusable pile of horseshit. I thought that 470 days would be long enough to get decent pyro changes, decent stat rebalances and decent matchmaking fixes so I thought it was 100% safe to be hyped but valve have outdone themselves.

At least I didn't expect anything and wasn't still disappointed. The pyro changes seem decent and that's pretty much what I cared about anyways.
Sure, matchmaking is a bummer but it won't really influence my personal enjoyment of the game.

how can people expect anything from a dev team that makes updates that are "mediocre" at best every year, and make less updates that are *WORSE* every day, and introduce/not fix more bugs every year. i struggle to think of another dev team who consistently dissapoint me without name dropping EA or some other AAA company

reminder valve is worth billions

current dev team was dealt a shit hand and have an insurmountable mountain of bullshit to wade through before they can fix their game. there are like 18(?) people working on this game last time i checked. they have no resources.

If they don't pull surprise MM fixes in this update, I'll be pretty happy for the update.
If they do, I'll be very happy for the update.

This update is good if the next one is comp matchmaking related and comes out in less than 4 months.

Otherwise it's lacking and they could have spent their time much more efficiently.

I think word was there were up to 5 programmers, sometimes less, with everyone else both working on a more cosmetic side of things and getting pulled to other projects whenever.

The changes to pyro itself seem really cool and show a willingness to be bold- I really like them. I can't wait to try out the new unlocks. The new contract system and war paint also seem great... But this update just doesn't feel complete without a revamp to competitive. If it takes another half a year for us to get an acceptable form of competitive matchmaking (with an actual elo system like any other game with a ranked ladder) then that's just ridiculous. If it's soon, then fine. I understand, they wanted to get the update out and competitive wasn't quite up to the standard they wanted. But if it takes a really long time, I can't help but lose faith.

No competitive updates. Bit of a downer, but whatever. I didn't have much hope for match making to begin with and it sounds like they still are planning on working on it. having only 4 active programmers I can understand why something like this would take so long. Don't care for spy nerfs all that much. Seemed like such a non-issue to me, but whatever. On paper the pyro changes seem great and I can't wait to try them out. I was really hoping for more rewarding pyro DM. Never really cared about cosmetic things, but allowing players to get the items for free through free contracts is really great instead of having to rely on randomly finding the new items or having to pay for over priced weapons.

Sure I appreciate the "effort" from tf2 team to update the game, and it is nice. But like so many people said before, the fact that it took this long to make an update WITHOUT competitive mm update, fixing the sticky detonation bug etc. sours this out for me.

But in the plus side, it makes me 50% less angry now that my computer broke down and possibly I can't fix it before Monday or Tuesday. :)

Where is the casual fixes? A lot of the games i get in are dead, players queue up at the end of the game, queueing up takes way more than logically needed a lot of the time which are pretty big problems imo. I thought they would for sure fix these.

What if they (Valve) bamboozled us and we will see a change once we update tomorrow? (hopefully :X)

I was really happy and excited while reading through the update page, all 4 of them had me hyped.

And then I got to the bottom of the last one and just thought "wait why isn't the page scrolling anymore, where's the rest of it?"

The fact that we poured and poured and poured our hearts out with criticisms and suggestions when Valve initially posted their proposed weapon changes and they literally just copy-pasted their previous post into this page and finalized their initial ideas disappoints me deeply.

I was really looking forward to playing matchmaking again and continue to play it even after the hype train. I kinda stopped playing as casual isn't doing it for me anymore and pugs are just too slow these days. I guess contracts will keep me busy for a little bit and the pyro stuff looks interesting. It doesn't seem justified for the time it took but from the sounds of it there's stuff they were working on that they didn't release so hopefully the next important competitive update comes soon otherwise time will kill this game.
