some guy in a barnblitz pub used a sniper duel token on me and I beat him so he invited me to play for his HL team... as demo.
Wanted to market garden duel with my friend and I googled about dueling gamemodes in tf2 and found mge. I played some with my friend and then I watched a jerma video about it. Eventually I got into the mge-side of the game, meanwhile playing tf2lobbies more and more. Eventually made my first 6s team with a guy called scofield I met on an mge server and that's where it started... The reason I'm a solly main is because I started out playing solly mge basically... pretty pathetic if u ask me.
I was bored so I made a ugc team with a friend a bunch of randoms
When i was like 13 i started learning about esports actually being a thing, and saw the i46 documentary in my recommended videos on YT after watching some stuff on old quake/cs, started watching ESEA-I and asked for a laptop to play tf2 on for xmas later that year.
I remember seeing a 3k from Carnage back in the day that made me want to get good at the game and look into the competitive scene.
Pop Cultre by Cla was the first frag movie that really solidified it all for me.

irl friends in high school who played tf2 competitively used to play with me, introduced me to tf2center and ugc. I didn't even know esea existed until newbie mixes. My irl friends had online who friends used to be really toxic to me so I got obsessed with one day being better than them at the very beginning. everything after that just snowballed as i met more and more people that I wanted to beat.
will never forget playing 24/7 harvest playing sniper with rocker ;)
watching the best competitive 6v6 team in europe (LOWPANDER) inspired me
I made friends on process pubs since that was the only thing i played and one of them one day told me that his open hl team is looking for a player
A friend I met (shinyjesus) through doing jump maps asked me to play medic for his HL team in steel. Then RJ asked me to med for his plat 6s team. Then I switched to roamer when we played first season of ESEA! :D
I still miss those guys. RJ, Vee, Beghty, Dodecagon.
Both times I quit Luc ended up reeling me back in. Shoutouts to the madlux crew :)

I was part of the SourceOP 24/7 goldrush community - we even had our own 16v16 goldrush league where all of the different clans that were present on the server throughout the day would take on each other on a private server.
We also regularly feuded with the SourceOP Rotation #1 and #2 servers and most of those guys were already in comp. When ETF2l held its first tournament for medals we all made teams, and CommFT had their bracketed tournament shortly thereafter me and 5 buddies decided to make a sixes team. Also this video really helped: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENruOrM01CQ
Or community is also the reason that the halo hat exists, as the guy who ran SourceOP made a program that would allow you to obtain hat drops even while not logged into tf2 - they took away all our illbegotten hats though and imposed a weekly drop limit :( He also figured out the golden wrench algorithm and obtained one, then had it taken from him, and his account banned, and then he was offered a job by Valve - where he currently works lol.
One of our friends also won some thing to get mentored by Vhalin when he was on ^6, and ended up being a medic ringer for spacewhales and got to play like once lol.
Players brought to you by sourceOP both in Highlander and 6s, that somebody may know, in order of me remembering them:
Me, Hugh Laurie, Collide, Sizzling Calamari (of Sizzlingstats fame), Yum, Wombraider, Ibby, Zalfy, cusideabelincoln, Sdogg2m, Novamode, Goomba/Kittiesoink, and most of the early -=KA=- and DesA players in highlander.

My IRL friends maffi and iZon were playing on a community servet back in 2010 or so and we joined the community. We learned that they had a etf2l team and went on from there. They also hosted double mixes which I played every weekend. Then I found IDK newbie mixes <3
Reddit EU pub server and UKMD Badwater server had people that played in ETF2L as well as I watched a lot of frag movies, but never understood that they were from comp I guess. Ended up going from pubs to tf2lobby and started lft as a 6s soldier and instead got picked up into highlander as a pyro after only playing a couple highlander games to see what that was.
Because cygnus from Baby Punching Marathon and 'Reddit West Too' pub server said my demo was good
Been watching competitive games for a few years, really got into it during i55, but was never brave enough to actually join a team until this season.
drosophile's frag movie also getting shit on by xan and freestate and others in xbox tf2 pubs

800 hours into the game and 100 and something into tryharding as scout on the local cp_orange server, some random dude added me, we talked and then invited me to the chilean pug server and i sucked but wanted to get better because it was cool and different
I met someone on the doublecross server I frequent who used to be a 6s player and he basically told me about ugc/esea and what I needed to do to get started.
I'm eternally grateful to him because he's the one who showed me the basics and I wouldn't even be here without him encouraging me to get past my confidence issues and to just play.

I had like 250 hours in the game and I stumbled across Ma3la’s rocket genius videos and was like wow this guy is super good at the game. While watching the videos I noticed the XTS tag and intro and was just searched XTS tf2 into YouTube and found a bunch of comp matches from like s16 (these videos were still pretty new when I first found them) and then I just looked up ways to play competitive tf2 and started playing tf2c lobbies. Annnd that was like 3 1/2 years ago wow
i was playing arena and told someone in chat that i played arena to get better then he told me to play tf2lobby
thank u man who told me to play tf2lobby
