wickedplayer494AccordIf we make a reddit post the mods will probably pin it since many of the mods want to help promote the comp scene as much as possible, it would also help a lot with signupsSend your golf claps to /u/PurnPum. Or a party through the streets, I guess.

Just wanted to let you guys know the UGC forums deleted a thread with this announcement in it.
Level of delusion in this thread is disturbing.
ESEA is still P2P, even if it is less expensive than previously, the very notion of P2P still exists.
Secondly, level of interest in TF2 isn't high enough for this to be anywhere near sustainable beyond one season, best case scenario ESEA gets 20 new teams, downward trend resumes, ESEA would have to keep marketing offers to keep the new level of growth sustainable.
Thirdly I doubt anyone from ESEA actually did any research on what the demographics who play UGC but not ESEA actually want in a league, I don't think the answer is "to be a little less cheaper to play" - When you put community leagues and P2P leagues together in TF2, the only advantage ESEA has is prizes (of which are meaningless to the average newer player) or are counteracted by being by products of something people do not see the need to pay for due to the alternatives (stats, servers, forums etc).
The P2P model doesn't work in TF2, as proven throughout history and when the community is half its size today than it was 5-6 years ago, if anyone truly believes this will have any impact at all then you're extremely deluded. I would love to see P2P leagues being successful in TF2, but this is just some cheap ploy which will not work even if UGC advertised it on their forums or not.
Time to wake up TFTV.

I was really missing open players calling themselves IM players because they went 1-16 in IM so im glad thats back
The problem has been to get people to pay anything to play TF2, so I'm dubious of how effective slightly lowering the cost to play open will be at creating an influx of new players. Honestly, if someone was willing to pay any money to play 6s, they were probably already doing so

edit: I'm not sure how ESEA works but I thought you had to pay prem thingy for everything, so obviously its never going to be free but they arent saying its FREE they are saying its FREE TO ENTER

Ah, this is obviously some strange usage of the word 'free' that I wasn't previously aware of.
Was excited for a little bit, thinking NA would get a free, well-run, prestigious league option to give comp TF2 a boost, instead it got slightly less expensive, which won't do much, if anything.

this change seems stupid to me
newbies in na wanting to check out competitive now have to pay to do so still but dont even get a chance to win any prizes? how is this supposed to attract more players (to esea) in any way?

ya but think about all the people who now have literally 0 incentive to sandbag open
lol I’ve never understood the complaints of having to pay for esea. It’s barely any money and you’re provided with a service with extensive stats, decent servers, and a more professional feel to competitive tf2. If you can’t afford 7 dollars a month you should be looking for a job...
So for the people here that didnt actually read the post on ESEA about this, the reasoning has more to do with trying to pull the tens of thousands of CS players that already have monthly prem into tf2 and less to do with trying to bring ugc nerds in or making an actual free league.
Yeah seems like they want open to be mostly CS:GO players and IM to be open from last season more or less. That's the impression I got from the post anyway.
i dont think ESEA is retarded enough to think this will attract hordes of UGC players, I think it's meant to 1,) attract CS:GO players to play in a new league 2.) bring back IM which will make both divisions better to play in, which in turn 3.) makes the barrier to playing ESEA lower with the decreased costs, less sandbaggers, etc.
if ESEA wanted to attract ugc players, it wouldn't take a rocket scientist to figure that equation out, just make a free beginner division that plays once a week while offering some sort of incentive that is better than receiving a participation medal. i think you have to give ESEA some level of respect and say they knew this wouldn't attract UGC players, but I still don't know how effective this model will be. looking forward to IM for sure tho

if cs players start playing this game i will fear every new scout player

ESEA single handedly changing the TF2 meta by introducing 1000s of sniper mains that only use The Awper Hand

1. more csgo players in tf2
2. better skill differential with the return of IM, making open much more accessible and IM much more rewarding/interesting for good players
the discount is nice, especially for the new team drive, but ultimately it's not the main thing to celebrate

in the beginning there were some 1.6 players who switched to tf2 eg. gremaud,tmarshall22 etc..

Jarrett000the invite codes only last 1 week unfortunately and all codes have a couple-month cooldown so you cant spam use them through a season
should still give them out, since that's what they're for, but just be aware
HasssassinI will give out a bunch of premium codes when the season rolls in.
marekk_12all of invite should give out free codesi got like 6 on deck ready to go
