MalloryI actually have the ability to make a proper visible announcement and not just a thread that will get buried in a few weeks, so please, let me try and work on it.
thank you for fighting the good fight
you shouldn't have to though, which is the criticism a lot of us have

KevinIsPwnI played in UGC for several months before learning p much anything about ESEA/ETF2L/TFTV/etc. I'm not the only one.
lol I watched a bunch of frag videos of top players for months of me finding out about comp tf2 and I though HL was THE game mode for comp tf2. I though these players (like ma3la, and grape) were UGC Plat 6s, when i found out they were playing 6v6 and not highlander.
part of the reason for my obliviousness was I saw lots of players in game with UGC participation and placement medals and so i just thought UGC was the place to go for comp TF2
anecdote aside, i agree with people like Kevin, new players aren't very likely to know what ESEA is

I remember when I was 13 and watching countless hours of "Platinum Sniper gameplay" until two years later, I finally learned what sixes even was.

MalloryFornaught doesn't deserve any of this when all he does is run a league out of pocket and asks for nothing in return for it.
So he does it all for naught?

100% agree with this post, when you look at a top players inventory’s they have Ugc 1st place badges and you assume that’s the main league to play in

can we beg valve for esea medals?
can we beg valve for esea medals?
Aptcan we beg valve for esea medals?
We would need to get esea to make medals first

I'm not sure what the old reason was for no medals being included in the past at this point because of medals we give for LAN events that have prize pools (which used to be the theory as to why ESEA never had medals). I might ask somebody; if I get a response, I'll round up some folks I know.

I think it's funny when reading that americans complain about a free league (UGC).
Shouldn't one have the FREEDOM to choose where you wanna play?
Also don't understand people shitting on sigafoo for pointing something out that you wouldn't know if you aren't used to ESEA. I didn't really follow what he all wrote, but the first tweet and comment on reddit only states that there are costs due to needing premium, which you might not know as a newcomer to esea.

I honestly cringe reading these responses to sigafoo on reddit, the vitriol is amazing. Nice job getting new players into comp tf2 guys!!!

when did sigafoo even mention 7s, tbh he makes a fair point. him looking at this like it's a bad thing tells a lot though.

IIRC, they were in the works and pretty much done but we were blocked by Valve since they didn't want to give out medals for a league that you would have to pay for. Valve would probably still have the same position which even I think is fair.

Why is this fair? It's a league the player chooses to participate in. It's no different than buying a cosmetic. Hell, you have to pay to get the Tip of the Hats medal.

Yep. TotH is for charity, ESEA is not. It's that simple.
Getting back on-topic... TF2 needed Open to be cheaper a long time ago. Premium should still keep joke teams out of the league, but removing the league fee will hopefully allow more UGC/Newbie Mix players to join ESEA.
