After teasing the event many months ago, Esports Arena has finally announced the details for its next TF2 event, appropriately named Rewind II.
General Info
Building off the popularity of last year, Rewind II will be a three-day event taking place February 16th - 18th at the Esports Arena venue in Santa Ana, California with TF2 as the feature game once again.
The action will center around a tournament featuring some of the top teams in the world. On Friday, the event will begin with an open qualifier, where 14 open teams will compete against each other to advance to the main event alongside the 4 to-be-announced invited teams. Once the qualified teams are determined, the 8 teams will be split into 2 groups which will compete in a 2-game round-robin group stage to determine seeding for the playoffs.
On Saturday, the double-elimination playoffs will begin, with the 2 top teams from each group starting off with best-of-three opening matches in the upper bracket and the 2 bottom teams in each group facing do-or-die best-of-one elimination matches in the lower bracket. Two more best-of-three lower bracket elimination matches will leave only 4 teams standing as the day concludes.
Sunday will feature the conclusion of the bracket action, with best-of-three matches up until the best-of-five grand final, in which the new champions of Rewind will be crowned.
Details
Rewind II will feature the same hybrid game ruleset as last year, with control point maps concluding as soon as one team wins five rounds or the 30-minute time limit has elapsed and king of the hill maps concluding when a team has won four rounds.
The teams will be competing for their share of the prize pool, with $5,000 to start and additional money coming from the community via crowdfunding.
The entry fee for open competitors will be $90 per team, which includes usage of PCs provided at the venue during the open qualifier. After the open qualifier concludes, PCs will be available for anyone to use with purchase of a day or weekend LAN pass. Both tournament passes and LAN passes are available for purchase now at the Esports Arena store.
Spectating the event, like last year, will be completely free. Concessions, including a full-service bar, will also be available for purchase at the event.
In addition to the tournament, there will be side events occurring during the breaks in action. While most are still unknown, one in particular has been confirmed: the worldwide premiere of the long-awaited Ready Up: Competitive Team Fortress 2 documentary will be streamed on Sunday evening prior to the grand final.
