More Highlander, more fun! ETF2L's Highlander Season 4 has opened signups for their tournament and will remain open until March 8. All participating teams that finish their season will receive some in game items as prizes in addition to the €1,000 up for grabs between the top three teams. Have at it!

United Gaming Clans have their Highlander and 6v6 leagues starting up for the spring season openers which start January 21 and January 23 respectively. In addition to the new seasons the UGC has also recently expanded to the Australian region in addition to their Asian, South American, and European regions. Players from any of these regions are encouraged to participate and join the fun! More details can be found on the UGC site.
Looks like a majority of the recent posts on teamfortress.com are about competitive stuff actually. Nothing about ESEA though.

It's a nod, for sure, but when you get down to it, those medals were made by the community, and were pushed to Valve by the community. Hopefully we get something more overt in the future.

Wouldn't it be much easier if all of us added teamfortress.tv to our steam names? At least while we are pubbing, Costs nothing and people will pay a bit more attantion to it.

Putting myself in a new players shoes though, if I came to this site I'm not sure what would draw me in to it. The front page is basically a news feed for what's happening in the competitive leagues. All of the articles are about predictions for those leagues. Good for competitive players, but not so good for players outside of the competitive scene even if they have some interest in learning.
From my own personal experience in other game communities what drew me into particular sites was really their guides, walkthroughs and 'expert' tips. There's a wealth of knowledge from the players on this site but from a visit to the front page you really wouldn't be aware of where to get it. There's a guide section but that is not currently active.
I think if the goal is to drive new players into comp there could be a lot more emphasis on the front page of this site to guiding them in. Like a standing "intro to competitive tf2" feature or whatnot.
enigma is trying to figure out the best way to fix this problem; I'm also trying to work on a guide for new players.

But I never managed to get a number, so.
I have no idea if enigma wants to do rings (honestly, he's getting pretty busy at the moment, what with priorities on improving the site versus advertising and LAN coming up); but I believe the cost is too much for right now; it'll definitely result in growth, but it won't result in $100. The best thing to do is name changes on yourself (mocha and I style our names as so: "mana | teamfortress.tv", as does lamefx occasionally), or weapon name/description changes.
