Your ears are one of the most awesome tools you have at your disposal. You get to listen to awesome music and talk to those around you with ease and remain aware of threats like cars when crossing the road. As you age your hearing will decay naturally, however you can prevent your hearing from worsening by doing things such as wearing earplugs for noisy situations like concerts or Mediterranean family gatherings and keeping the volume of the music you're listening to at comfortably low levels, whether you're listening through headphones, speakers or sound systems like those in cars.
At the same time. be sure to respect the hearing of others. Avoid yelling or speaking too loudly, even more so when in close proximity to one's ears. Warn those around you if you're going to do something which will make lots of noise. If you have guests with you at your home or in your car, be considerate and keep the volume at a comfortable level (a good rule of thumb is if you need to raise your voice to be heard over the music, then the music is too loud). Remember that some people might find it rude to ask you to lower the volume when they're uncomfortable with the volume, so make the effort to ensure everybody's hearing, including yours, are in good hands :)

That’s funny cos earlier I was just thinking of the time someone smashed both sides of my head between their hands and I went temporarily deaf for the rest of the day

As many people would put it, there is no concert, song or sound worth losing your hearing to. Hearing damage is irreparable!
If you're looking for a pair of very high quality, affordable earplugs, I personally recommend Flare Isolates. They preserve a lot of tone and don't muffle the sound as much as you think a pair of earplugs would. Infact I've found myself using them when walking near very busy roads as I get to listen to everything normally, just without putting my hearing at risk :)

As a person with tinnitus and hearing loss from playing and listening to really loud music I would say that wearing earplugs is a good idea. I didn't wear them when I was a teenager and went to a lot of shows and it fucked my hearing up.
The good news is that it just means I have to play even louder to be able to hear things at the same volume and playing really loud feels good. I always wear earplugs at shows or band practices now and I have learned my lesson.

this is really good honestly, even though it's quite general, im only 19 and ive already noticed my hearing has deteriorated quite a bit, definitely from too loud music. sometimes I cant hear comms and stuff like that
the eyes and vision is a whole different topic tho..
