delete badlands when
also when i played it in Beater's cup, Cardinal seemed decent apart from its last point that's even larger than reckoner's last.

the map cup was made with the intention to seeing how those maps are liked by the community and cardinal was the favorite with koth_synthetic also being a solid contender, so one of those maps making it in shouldnt come to anyones surprise at this point
at the end of the day you can flip a coin for any map to be cut that isnt called process/gully/snake and the same reaction would happen with about as many people upset that their favorite map got cut and people happy that "the worst map in the pool by far" is finally out, except no one likes change either. you can never make everyone happy, if the map pool stayed the same there would just be complaining that its the same maps all the time, which already happened leading up to the introduction to reckoner.
and when it comes to lan, ESEA has their map voting rn so if americans want the same maps everywhere then its in the players hands to do that now, although all of that would only be a proper concern if i63 was to actually be an international lan which by current public information isnt the case
tldr: complaining no matter what, if the risk doesnt pan out just cut the map again

and you guys still believe kaido isn't part of the Illuminati lmao open ur eyes sheeple
jokes aside its sad to see Sunshine go as it was quite an enjoyable & competitive map, but Cardinal was by far the best map in the cup and I'm glad synthetic or propaganda didn't make it through as both still need a lot of improvements.

What is the point of playing Cardinal? When new maps come along and do well (Process) you feel it straight away and even the ones that improve over time (Snake, Sunshine) you can at least see the potential there from day 1. This maps design is so meh that there is no potential for it to be a regular map so why ruin people’s enjoyment for two weeks?
Good decision to put a new map in, whichever map they switched was going to be debatable as aside from a core 2 maps the rest have mixed views.
Good decision by the admins to put it in. Community is generally full of people complaining and not seeing bigger picture on the whole so it won't be appreciated but it's a good thing to do a new map even if it turns out to be as enjoyable as Sunshine or Reckoner or even tiresome as Snakewater or Prolands which are somehow favoured despite being the slowest maps in the pool.

Esea are implementing cardinal too according to B4nny. Idk what map it’s replacing though
YeeHawIdk what map it’s replacing though
ESEA will have 9 maps (8 current + 1 new)

A good way to solve this problem could be either to have a vote on which map should be cut or even to see which map gets banned the most in pugs to gauge popularity- I think if ETF2L used some actual stats measure their strong and weak maps, rather than somewhat anecdotal evidence, it would probably make people less upset when the map they in particular like is taken out of the pool.
i think there should be pre-season cup to decide about this new map.
I know there was Beater's cup but that was to find a new, good custom map.

Hey everyone!
We already had a map test cup and due to the delays caused by Copenhagen Games we do not have time for another one...
We decided to put cardinal into the map pool because it was the most promising out of the ones we recently tested.
While sunshine is a solid map, we felt like it does not have a unique feel to it (it falls in the bucket of process-esque maps) and there are still quite some players that deeply dislike it. The nail in the coffin (for S30 at least) was the fact that it is a final map, meaning it is not actually being developed anymore. While this is true for a number of maps in our pool, out of the final maps it is the weakest.
One could argue granary is also bad, but it is seeing some developement - whether for the better or worse we will have an eye on.
We have decided some time ago that we will always switch up the map pool by rotating at least 1 map in order to make it feel a little less stale. Playing, learning and understanding new maps is an important part of the competitive experience and we will hold on to this philosophy for the foreseeable future. Who knows, maybe after playing it more than once in a fun cup people will actually dig this map and the developer will gain enough feedback to make the necessary adjustments! Snakewater and process eventually became what one could refer to as "standart maps"... cardinal may be the next one. (:
Hope you will all sign up to the season and have a great time with your friends! <3

If new maps are going to be rotated in, it would be nice if they were done so more than two weeks before the season started. I have nothing against trying new maps but a lot of people just refuse to scrim/mix them because "I played it once and it is bad". So you tend to not really get any practice on it until the weeks it's played in come up.
That being said, cardinal looks bad for the same reasons bagel looks bad, and then some. The transitions between points are mazes. Especially second to last. Second point caps really fast, so it is going to be a backcap city (a lot of people find that unenjoyable). Attacking enemy second point with even ubers looks near impossible. It looks like a product forward hold with the size of the doors, just a demoman and soldier are swapped. The map itself looks really big as well; which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it definitely makes some classes feel worse off. A lot of unnecessary props around the place, some poor clipping (not too bad tbh, this is a minor point). The last point looks interesting as well but also looks like a bit of a mess, with some unnecessary areas, like the whole lower area.
As is cardinal looks really anti-fun to play. Mainly because it looks impossible to push out of last or second from due to the multitude of hiding spots for backcaps, and it looks nearly impossible to push or sac into second from mid on even ubers.
Apart from the maze-like foundation of the second to last lobby area, I cannot guarantee my concerns are valid without having played the map a bit. Which is why it would be nice to know about map changes sooner rather than later. The finals from the tournament were done two weeks ago, meaning the decision to actually put the map into the pool could have been made after feedback was gathered at least a week ago.
