Are there any games that feel similar to competitive 6s team fortress 2 in terms of movement, gunplay, and team aspects?
csgo is the same engine, so it has similar movement and good teamplay. quake is more similar in terms of gunplay though
not that i know of but i would have thought there's a market for a game with similar game mechanics to 6s tf2, seems like it would catch on quite well if someone wanted to make something like that.

Cs movement is completely different tho. They are both heavily modified source. Same engine so u get some of the same quirks but nothing is truly similar at a surface level.
The teamplay aspect is there tho.

Quake is the closest thing to it but Quake is TF2's grandfather, so, probably doesn't count

VisTF2 is unique.
pretty much this.
everything else is on a different engine, only similar in overall style rather than actual feel and play, or dead.
Closest comparison is technically CSGO or Quake Champions if you play the team modes. Even then that's not that close as both games are still drastically different movement mechanics and fire registration are very different from TF2.

I second this! Also check out NTF or CTF for the team aspect

first time ive seen v!s with a positive number of frags
Clanarena in the arena shooter of your choosing is the closest you'll get, afaik. Tribes 2 used to have some fiercely competitive groups back in the day, but it was nothing as organized as tf2 is nowadays. Obviously it felt different, but that and tf2 are probably the games where I've enjoyed the mechanics of moving and shooting the most.
This thread is the beginning of the v!s redemption arc
unless you want to play even more obscure games like Warsow, your best bet would be Quake Champions, just for the fact that there are projectile weapons and a movement based skill ceiling. as others have mentioned TF2 truly is unique, in that its super casual but also has a high competitive ceiling. easy for anyone to pick up and play, but hard to break through as a good player. unironically, the CoD franchise works the exact same way: anyone can pick up the controller and start playing, but it does take a considerable amount of effort and dedication to become an extremely good player who can run around the map and dominate.
theres also Overwatch
theres also Overwatch
I played a bit of Titanfall 2 (yes TF2 lul), and some of the mechanics felt a bit like TF2. One of the grenadier weapons (EPG) is literally a 5 shot rocket launcher (splash and fairly slow moving projectile).

If you want to play tf2, play tf2
If you want to play a ripoff with current trendy systems, play overwatch
Now is not the time for anyone to make a 6s tf2 clone. FPS mechanics you need to hone for 100s of hours don't sell. Heroes, abilities and battle royale do.

TF2 doesn't play like a quake based shooter either. its not even quake engine ffs. yeh 20 years ago it was in development to be one, but then they switched to source
its Overwatch.
on the dm side of things there like HL2DM (dead tho), CPMA, quake champs, tribes, qw
but I think you're going about it wrong if you are looking for a TF2 clone.
TF2 isn't even that good and 6s has stalemate issues

heh some people want cod clones, the copied game is shit, the copies are worse, but people still play; it just means people have different tastes.
Besides IMHO stalemate issues in tf2 aren't related to the nature of the game (6v6 class based game) but 50% maps, and 50% current class/item balance.
In the very hypothetical case someone makes a similar game this issues *could* be resolved (or the whole game could be even trashier lol)

You realize that Source is based on Goldsource, which is a modified version of the QuakeWorld engine, right? Not to mention that Team Fortress, as a game mode, started out as a Quake mod. Some of the minutiae of physics and movement are different, obviously, but TF2 is very plainly a direct descendant of Quake.

stalemates are made possible because you have a healer. its certainly related to the nature of the game. I think limited movement is a big factor. class balance and maps play into it. its a struggle for mapmakers because TF2 has that thing where you can't really make an open map because snipers will dominate, but maps with chokes are stalematey.
I agree the issues could be resolved in a similar game, but will they be? I don't see many good solutions except having strong movement on all classes which is pretty unlikely in a modern fps. overwatch gets around the healer issue by having offensive ults and game modes which are less susceptible to stalemates (eg: payload, koth).

meh I barely play overwatch. ever played WoW arena? the king of stalemates. but its mostly arena shooters/oldschool fps that did it.

There is too many levels of separation from source to quake engine for source games to feel like quake engine games imo. As far as game engines, by your logic CS:S or V:TMB is a Quake based game which is taking it too far. Using a very loosely quake based engine does not make it a quake based game. Most of the code in GoldSrc is Valves, much less Source. As far as QuakeWorld Team Fortress, TF2 is a spiritual successor I guess. It just doesn't play like it.
I don't really care to argue the semantics of whether TF2 should be considered a quake based shooter (it is, to some degree of course).
My point was TF2 doesn't play like what you would think a quake based shooter is. It's not fast paced. The physics like with air control and the floatiness is source/cs style. The netcode is clearly 100% Valve (high lag compensation). etc. Overwatch also does not play like what you would think a quake based shooter is.

stalemates were a problem before overwatch was released
on topic, realm royale is similar in terms of gunplay. it's got that quake-style shooter 2-4 shot ttk that makes duels fun instead of just a succession of shooting the unaware or getting shot in the back. It's also unfortunately a third person battle royale game with at least one slow, and developed by hi rez which means they'll kill it through negligence within a couple of years, but you can't have everything. Even though the gunplay and movement is unpolished it's still decently enjoyable for now.
