PhantomI think the comp tf2 community could have done a lot more to get the game growing but we as a whole have had shitty discipline so instead of making choices for the long term we chose short term decisions that kept the game stagnant. If (when?) the game becomes completely dead it is going to be our fault, not valve's.

Crowding funding teams to go to lans out of our own pockets, creating our own maps, gamemode, and ruleset, developing our own services to play the game on, making our own leagues or dealing with esea who couldn't care less about tf2, making our own lan events, trying again and again to get valve's attention towards 6s, newbie mix drives, and so much more that no other esport does with as small of a community or for as little monetary gain.

But because we didn't use faceit 10 years after the game came out because it's a shit platform(that we switched to and gave an actual chance for 3ish months) that can't implement the features it needs to be a good tf2 pug service it's our fault the game didn't become popular competitively, not valves.

edini dont know how people enjoy dm as a soldier when it's literally people playing in the dumbest way possible chasing down people with 10hp for the resup not turning their backs to you when you're shooting them

it especially sucks as soldier because you do good damage then just immediately die because a scout killsteals you and you end up with like 40 assists

Dm is also full of soldiers spamming chokes camping the high ground and bombing people who are already fighting.
