I don't know why but TF2 has become lack luster at best. I mainly play it do to having a team with all really nice awesome people. But I find myself only doing MGE for keeping my skills rounded out, scrimming and signing on to just be their for the team.
I find it more interesting to play Starcraft, Counter Strike GO (Bad fucking game...) Hell even Call of Duty MW3....
How does one stay hooked onto TF2 for more than 50 hours a week?

If it's not fun, don't play. You can't make anything fun and the harder you try, the less fun it gets.

some people are driven by competition and just really enjoy the game, I think it also has a lot to do with the people you play with
try taking a break for a while or playing a different class, keep it fresh

play less MGE and more of whatever game you feel like.

If I wasn't a competitive player, I probably would have quit this game already. The more stupid weapons that have nonsensical stats that come in to this stupid game, the more unnecessary it is to pub. MGE is boring except for every now and then and hardly helps me at all for competitive, so all I do is scrim mainly and DM here and there when I feel like dealing with that mod's shenanigans.
Like termo said, some people are driven by competition only.

I honestly can't tell you. I've been playing it for 5 years now and even when I stop playing for a while, I always find myself coming back, whether it's just messing around in a pub with some friends or playing scout in a pug or scrim. It's an addiction I probably won't be able to kick until the game's death whenever that may be.

I agree. I probably wouldn't be playing TF2 anymore if it wasn't for the fact that I've mained every class at one point or another.(Yes, even heavy) Also, there are still some pubs that I really enjoy playing in. For example, the critsandvich servers usually have some good people.

I know one thing is that MGEs are fun as can be if you find someone equal to same skill level. But finding that person is kinda a tasking quest. I honestly can not stand pubs other than the Sniper Head shot only type stuff.
I love the competitive of TF2, I just got burned out of it I guess? Played Unreal for god knows how long, since like 3rd grade or something (18 years old now) And only stopped due to Windows 7 craptastice feature of mouse acceleration on my dear old game. (Yes I did Google on how to fix it...)

I idle still thinking it works. But to have more fun install a randomizer mod on a server and have 6v6 w/ randomizer mod on for fun.

I told the same thing to my mentor as we were reviewing one of my demos from a scrim. He said to me "of course you are not having fun, you play a boring style".
Learn your class, learn the boundaries of what you can and can't do. If you are a scout or roamer, be a dick. Troll the enemy team. Learn the game and you will have fun even in scrims and matches.

Just like 8 hours a day or so... I have no job, but I have a girlfriend and a social life so don't be thinking I am just a hot pocket eating machine.
Came up with an idea, I like to program/ hack and what not, so why not make an aim bot.
I do not like aim bots nor do I think they take any skill, but I do wish to know how to make one for shits and giggles.

I usually hang out with a bunch of friends in mumble and pub around and spam binds at each other, but I haven't reached the crazy amount of hours most people on here have.

Watch frag movies.
That usually gets me pumped to play.

go play something else and then you'll realize that tf2 is literally the best game ever

I have played this game probably for an average of 40 hours a week, while balancing school and work for the past year at least. Pubs and scrims mainly, sometimes I get frustrated in pubs, but thats when I take it too seriously. So I just stop pubbing and do something else. Also idk why, but lately I've had fun turning on some music with the game sounds off. It makes for very fun pub sessions where I have to really try to be aware of surroundings. Damn spies are everywhere! But yea some people love this game for the game itself, some people like it for the competition. If its not fun, don't play it so much, or try and do different things in it.

I'm starting to wonder how I'm still playing TF2 myself but I enjoy off classing to keep things fresh.

Nin2246I am just a hot pocket eating machine.
I have selective reading so this is what gathered from your last post ;)
On topic though, the game does get boring. It definitely got really boring for me. At the end of the day you need to ask yourself if it's worth it to you. Can you have sustainable fun playing the game, or are you going to be spending most of your time figuring out how to make the game fun for you? If it's the latter, it's probably not worth it.

When I was big in eSports I found the only reason I stuck around was the friends I had made. It's sad now that the people I spent countless nights staying up late with and practicing our game I don't even talk to anymore.
Unless you have a core group you're playing with consistently I wouldn't see a reason to stick around either.

I probably won't find a game I can stick with, until something like Unreal Tournament comes back into the scene. Wish I knew more on Unreal Scripting than I do.

to be honest playing mvm and mann up with friends has been really helpful in preventing tf2 burnout for me at least
also if i find myself getting really mad at tf2 i just play something else

It's the same with any game. You can't really keep the same game "fresh" for over 1,000 hours unless you're setting goals for yourself or you really enjoy the community.

you will hate the game then love it again. it's a cycle.

try finding a public community that you enjoy playing with and establish yourself. pubbing is the real reason tf2 was made, you should never forget that
