I'm now considering selling my Pyro unusuals and quitting casual TF2 (I'll exclusively play 6v6). I keep trying to find realistic advantages with the current airblast, but I keep missing my flare shots, thinking how I would have got the kill with pre Jungle Inferno airblast. I'd give up my melee slot just for an item that gave the old airblast mechanics. I'm just not skilled enough to be as efficient as I was before to airblast change.
imagine thinking that tf2 will have an update in the next year
no valve will remove the pyro class from the game tomorrow
It's safe to say TF2 will not get a real update ever again
Hey my dad works at valve and if u say you like the airblast too much he will remove it
@wandad i love airblast i love airblast i love airblast i love airblast i love airblast i love airblast i love airblast i love airblast i love airblast
i love how this game receives so little developer attention that even the bi monthly "we need valve's support this game is dying!!!" threads have stopped

ward3di don't even remember how airblast changed lol
They made the pitch the person is sent at much more dependent on your own view's pitch (you aim up, they go up. you aim flat with the ground, they go flat with the ground). They also made it add velocity to players instead of set velocity (with a minimum speed cap of 600 hu/s in the direction you airblast them in). Plus a bit of bouncing people off collision and velocity reflecting stuff.
Since most people aim flat when airblasting they get no vertical velocity in their airblasts. They don't get the vertical popup for the free shots. Instead they just push people away at like 150% the speed a scout runs.
Flick up or down when airblasting if you're looking for it to be similar to old one, basically.

warning: pyro main opinion
imo the airblast changes were good except that the push force is a bit too much. It's very easy to a) send a bombing soldier/demo to Narnia with one airblast b) get tons of environmental kills in maps like upward. But it's good that airblast can't be used as an aim assist for free shots with the flare gun or shotgun. As much as I enjoy the flare gun in particular, it often felt like as soon as your average degreasermain pressed m2 on you in a pub you were a goner, and it's not the case anymore.
TBH it's made me enjoy the flare gun even more even though it's one of the worst pyro secondaries now, you can use a lot of different ways to aim it. Either you suck it up and hard aim without airblasting ('flarepunch'), you push people to corners if there are any, or you do what TMP said and aim m2 at the ground to pop them up.
I don't think anything about pyro will be changed in the foreseeable future, but toning down the push force would be just about perfect imo
