NinlopThe worst part about this is they likely were working on a large update, which is why there was engine level changes and optimization changes and generally just a small update to prepare for the bigger one, but I feel that now this massive fuckfest has happened any motivation for the TF team to finish that update is just going to disappear.
didn't they literally fix one exploit and other than that it was hats and medals and drops? where are these changes documented
e- alright cheers :-)

Ninlopsteamdb showed loads of engine level changes and string renames, iirc even the crate bug was the result of an attempted optimization change within this update
There was nothing of the sort. Just some symbols being rearranged in the compiler. For low level changes, there literally one thread mutex change, but that's not an optimization, just a synchronization fix for some crash somewhere probably.
There were some changes to some game classes, but no one could ever guess as to what those are, as only buildbot IDs changed. It could be one character being changed in the file.
Also crates aren't in the engine, it's in the GC which isn't distributed to the public.

You're forgetting that valve doesn't like working on weekends,
even when they halal slaughter one of their top games

I wouldn't really be arsed if they reverted everything, provided they refunded my bank account rather than just putting the funds into my steam wallet.
I run default and use no hats mod anyway XD..

ShooshYou go into a music store and like this guitar. It has been mislabelled for £200 instead of £2000. You go to the checkout and there's a new employee there who doesn't know this. He sells you the guitar for £200. You have the receipt. You now own the guitar.
The owner of the store shows up to your house the next day. He forcibly gives you £200 back and forcefully takes the guitar back. You have no say in the matter.
You go to a casino slot machine. It has a software error that means you win big every roll, instead of once in a hundred rolls. You, and thousands of others, try to do this as much as possible before it's patched since you fully know it's an unintended exploit. A casino employee notices this and points to the disclaimer on the machine saying "in case of software error, winnings are voided and payments refunded." You don't get the money that you shouldn't have gotten in the first place, and act like you were the one ripped off when they didn't let you abuse their system.
This is also what actually happens in these cases: https://vegasclick.com/games/slots/malfunctions
Valve would have an even stronger case because it's all virtual hats inside their own service, and they reserve the right to do whatever they want with your items.

in all these fun hypotheticals there's someone on the other end getting fucked footing the bill. Its hard to feel bad for valve getting bit in the ass after profiting for years on unregulated gambling for items they've gone to court to argue are valueless.
For me, that was the most interesting and entertaining thing to happen in TF2 for the past 4-5 years.
I was really exicted that i almost derailed the thread can we stop talking about guitars and discuss scandinavian economics instead
Scandinavia is still very capitalist lol, they just have a functioning safety net

Not to derail this thread too much but it depends on how you look at it (as well as which country in Scandinavia you are talking about)
It is simultaneously true that Americans overestimate what counts as “socialism”, but also underestimate facets of the Nordic countries that go beyond a mere welfare state
See: http://mattbruenig.com/2017/07/28/nordic-socialism-is-realer-than-you-think/ for a good read on the topic
Besides, in a strictly Marxist sense (although the term obviously predates Marx) socialism is only supposed to be a transitional form of government (one that no modern society has fully moved past) so it makes sense that it’s hard to establish an agreed upon definition, with some dwelling on any government nationalization and others holding out for true collective control of the economy
Anyways back to the hat game

I still can't get over just how absolutely fucking incompetent the TF team is. Like, they get paid six digits a year and yet they sit on their ass playing Dota while releasing broken update after broken update. If this mess, with valve needing more than 17 hours to even start taking the most basic counteractions, doesn't prove that the TF team and valve don't give the slightest shit about this game, then I don't know what does.
They're actually shockingly incompetent. If this were any other company, people would be fired for this.

sourceI said this a while back but no one really gave a shit but here it goes, this game was in development for 9 years before being released in 2007, its been 12 years later. So 9 + 12 = 21. The TF team has been working on one single game for 21 years, I'm pretty sure they are burnt out.
Sure its a long time but with that logic people who work long careers on the same job are also burnt out of it?

Any Trader in the community can explain wat the immediate aftermath of this resulted the economy to?
Are my earbuds I purchased when I was 12 for like 25 keys now valid again?

Given the direction the game has been going in, I refuse to believe it's the same people. There isn't a burnout excuse in a job which is voluntary at a six figure paycheck. If they were so tired of it they could work elsewhere without pushing out broken update after broken update.
I sure as hell wouldn't mind if MyM never happened.

main trading currency is still keys, they didnt change too much in value except for a very short spike on the market. unusual prices will stabilize to their old values as the new ones are untradable and account locked for now. right now it's a waiting game to see what further steps valve decides on.
