I usually only bother reading things if they're pretty dissident since most things mainstream are backed by piles of money and agenda setting.

Does anyone know of a any good introductory neuroscience books? I'm not looking to be a doctor or anything I'm just looking for something that deals more on the theory and current understanding of how the brain works.

I’m currently reading Alice in the Wonderland. Rereading it after a long time now. Alice in Wonderland carries as much or as little significance as you want it to. It’s everything from a mindless romp in an imaginative land to a depiction of the effects of a ruthlessly authoritarian system of justice.

OMG I LOVE BRANDON SANDERSON AND PAT ROTHFUSS!! I've been through all of Sanderson's books related to the Cosmere. Also been through all of The King Killer Chronicles. Right now I'm on book 5 of The Wheel Of Time, by Robert Jordan, and Brandon Sanderson (he finished the last 2 books after Jordan died). Wheel Of Time is an amazing series so far.
Hey my bad bumping a dead thread but I remember somebody mentioned WoT in this thread. I started reading wheel of time in December and I just finished a memory of light, the last book.
Holy shit this series was great. Before reading WoT I had stormlight, kingkiller, and first law as my top 3 but wheel of time was better than all of them. The battles in the last two books were insane. 12 books of setup/development led to the most ridiculous shit. Ending was amazing.
Robert Jordan died before the series was finished. Four years later they got Brandon Sanderson, who at the time was pretty much a nobody, to finish the series. I'm shocked by how good of a job he did. You could tell the style/prose was slightly different but every character, characters who had been developed across millions of words, felt just as genuine as when Robert Jordan was writing.
The series isn't going to be for everyone, Jordan's writing can be overly descriptive sometimes. A few of the books called "the slog" (https://i.redd.it/ihqfile627g11.jpg) are said to be extra difficult to get through. I loved it though. I think Amazon picked up the series recently due to the GoT fantasy tv show craze and are gonna start filming soon.
Was a great read hope you're enjoying/enjoyed it glop :>

I'm not actively reading anything right now but I'm trying to read more since I've found this great app called Hoopla that lets me legally read just about anything on my phone or computer with my sister's library card.
-I just finished Animal Farm. It was good!

rip boxer :(((((
-I just finished reading the Vision 2015-2016 comic series (12 issues across two volumes). Honestly, I wanted to like it because I love robots, the pitch was great and the art was gorgeous, but it felt like 12 issues of filler and disconnected plot points.
-If I have downtime in the car I'm usually reading some transformers comic! More Than Meets the Eye (2012-2018) is SO good you guys if you like humor, sci-fi settings, losers on spaceships and things that are good you will like it! It's just about my favorite piece of fiction ever! The first five volumes (which is one complete story arc) are avail on Hoopla, so if you have a library card you can read them for free! It costs you nothing!

Started read Roadside Picnic, which is the book that the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games are based off of.
Finishing up The MVP Machine, which covers how player development in baseball has evolved over the years. Very solid book, especially all the Trevor Bauer stuff.
I have all the King Arthur stories For when I finish the latter. I want to start on The Damned Trilogy too.

I'm currently working on the first book Issac Asimov "Cycle of Foundation" series (one of his most famous), and enjoying it so far.
It seems to generally be about important dudes pulling off 200iq political maneuvers in a far future sci-fi context, so I'm having a good time

@nimby or anyone interested in fantasy. The Malazan Book of the Fallen series by Steven Erikson is fucking primo, I love it. The series is very detailed and is much more gritty than wheel of time. It might be discouraging because it's very complicated and has a shitload of characters.
Also I did finish WoT nimby, Sanderson did very well on the last few books; I couldn't even tell Jordan wasn't writing.

Recently finished the secret commonwealth by phillip pullman. It was good but its very much only the first half of a complete story so im reserving my judgement until the final volume.
Still have not gotten past page 160 of crime and punishment
Started the overstory by richard powers a few weeks ago and so far its pretty good, looking forwards to finishing it over the holiday.
Also picked up dune which ill probably read after the overstory.

children of dune by frank herbert, about halfway through. interested to finish it to see what the implications are on the remaining books in the series, definitely doing a good job of moving the plot

I've been reading "Boomerang" by Michael Lewis. It's about how the 2008 recession impacted the economies of other countries across the world, and how they still haven't recovered from it.
