Thorn nailed it in #25. You're overthinking the 'practice meta' and setting yourself up with a bad attitude which will actually hold you back. "Man I'd be winning if this guy wasn't playing so gay......" No. He's playing in a way that you seem to have no response to. Figure out the response to it. Or play just how you feel and don't be upset about losing.

Obviously counterjumping doesn't work all the time in the 'real game' but actually there's lots of times when it's a legit option. If I'm in dm and that godawful turbine map comes on I'm going to sit up on the bats and chuck stickies down on people fighting below. Why? I'm terribly inconsistent at it and I feel like I'm getting something out of it. If you don't think so I just don't give a shit. I'm there to shoot my guns and have literally no regard for the emotional states of the people running around on the floor. My attitude does not at all affect your ability to get some good dm practice in.

But yes, it's really good to have a few dedicated mge buddies to push you to your limits and force you to come up with solutions to situations.

thorn_Instead of calling out a whole bunch of players for their "cheapness", why don't you seek alternative methods of dealing with your problems? Play DM and MGE to improve, and if you get beat - they outplayed you. Keep playing and you'll get better. Also, with all due respect, what exactly are you supposed to do in DM if you're not supposed to try to win? Winning only means you killed more players, which is the point of DM.

Not trying to be mean, but there are so many people who would rather sit back and make every excuse in the book than genuinely improve themselves. This applies to everything in life.

By "winning" in DM, I mean that they aren't playing to get better, or to get more kills, but to have a better KD by only ever fighting people that aren't fighting them.

And I understand your point, and I'm not trying to come off as someone whining that "Oh he counterjumped me, it's not fair and i can't beat him!" What I'm trying to say is that when I play against people like that, it's frustrating for me, and I neither have fun, nor do I feel like I improve while playing against those people. Eventually my DM will reach a level where I can just deal with it and fight them anyways, but until then, I want to find people to MGE against that don't do that so that I can focus on the bare bones basics, and enjoy myself while I improve.

But it doesn't matter why they're playing.

It only matters why you're playing.

This is why everyone gets butthurt when they die in DM. If you treat DM as a tool to get better, and not a measurement of skill or a league match, then you won't get frustrated. It's about you, not about them. Every second you're playing is a second you're improving. If you shoot a thing you just got practice, whether that thing was wearing a targe, wielding a bison, or camping on gullywash nipple.

Just play the game and have some fun, don't worry about maximizing practice efficiency or whatever.

Waldobut too many people use it the wrong way, jumping straight up whenever someone jumps you works in MGE, but not in a game.

If you actually have good DM, shit like that won't work on you. Honestly, the best way to not get frustrated with MGE and improve your DM is to not even pay much attention (AKA: Mihaly's flow, which is actually a thing). DM will will become second nature, like rocket jumping does, and you'll be able to focus more on meta-game in an actual match.

Well shit, I'd be glad to be an MGE pinata for you. I'm low, but I play clean and I never give up. You've already got me added, I'm available most evenings after 6-7pm pst.
