As we all remain stuck at home, RGL is giving us something to build towards, as the North American flagship league has announced its third season of 6s, with some significant changes. Those looking to join the almost 100 rosters in the process of being formed must have their starting rosters submitted by May 16th.
Keeping in NA tradition, RGL has continued to tweak its proprietary whitelist, electing to unban 4 weapons: The Detonator, the Gas Passer, the Scorch Shot, and the Solemn Vow. The Pyro's new weaponry was allowed in, as RGL stated that players indicated the unbans would have negligible effects on gameplay, while opening potential for new weapon combinations on Pyro. The Solemn Vow, being a more controversial change, was explained in the post as not affecting play at a high level, and not being a substitute for proper Uber tracking.
The controversial point ranking system, that played no small role in Season two's Invite playoffs race, has been traded for win/loss as the primary ranking metric based on post-season feedback. The secondary metric will be the ratio of rounds played to rounds won, with further tiebreakers being handled according to global ruleset.
The season's map pool will see the fabled cp_granary swapped for kevin gator's cp_villa following an Invite-only map cup. Additionally the Invite division exclusively will feature koth_bagel, in hopes that the additional map will help bring variety into the pick/ban selection process of the top division. The map pool for the season is thusly:
- cp_snakewater_final1
- cp_sunshine
- cp_gullywash_final1
- cp_process_final
- cp_metalworks
- cp_villa_b13a
- koth_clearcut_b14c
- koth_product_rcx
- koth_bagel_fall_b7 (Invite only)
Additionally, due to the current health crisis, no LAN has been scheduled for Season 3, however the league is looking to host one "at the nearest available opportunity."
For those wondering about the use of game-altering plugins in the upcoming season, the league is yet to come down on a complete verdict, however the removal of Medic attach speed, is off the table for the current season.
