on some real shit quarantine had fucked over my family pretty hard and so most my money I saved went to my parents and I can confidently say that I'm not the only one who will have issues paying fees for their divisons league fee, also what alfa said, if we helped pay out the venue and the LAN never happened, why do we have to pay a LAN fee again? It should already be paid for...
Me when I have to pay LAN fees for a LAN that won't happen.

you guys aren't going to get your money back rgl probably can't get refunds for the venue/equipment rentals/other stuff
everyone i've been talking to can't get refunds for anything because all the businesses need money to stay alive and pay employees
rgl doesn't get a special exemption for refunds because they're a gaming league or something
calling this fraud for a global pandemic causing quarantine seems like overkill
idk about putting money down for a lan this season though
breakdown of money would be cool + maybe telling people they can get their money back this season if it looks like stuff isn't happening/just saving it for next season

Just because there is a virus, doesn't mean that a breach of contract can't be sued for fraud. If you explicitly pay for a service, you either get the service or get refunded (rip up the contract). Yes, it's hard to get refunds right now in a lot of cases because companies lose most of their obligations when they go bankrupt. That or people just aren't persistent enough.
Obviously this isn't the case if they have a non-refund policy in their payment conditions. Someone from RGL should share with the class if that's the case. Either way, if Sigafoo has any spine he should do one of the following:
- refund the community because it's the right thing to do
- release a detailed record of where the money went and explain why there can't be refunds
- waive the fee for next season
I get that accounting and management for a small org is difficult, but please, fix something right just once RGL.

liasUnless RGL has a contract which specifically states that lan fees are non-refundable even in the case that lan doesn't happen (which maybe they have?), then they have committed fraud (at least in the US).
But you're not paying for a LAN you're paying for LAN sustainability. What's more sustainable than a LAN that costs absolutely no resources because it's always one season away and never actually happens? That's the only type of LAN that can be sustained indefinitely. You're just paying sigafoo for inventing that glorious concept.

I think we as a community should stand up for ourselves here. These are difficult times for all of us. A small prize pot is meaningless. We more or less play for the love of the game. ETF2L for most of its existence never had a meaningful prize and yet competition was healthy.
It looks like they removed the LAN fee. I could be wrong but when I was seeing how much it would cost yesterday it still had the LAN fee.

What baffles me the most is that this is always what happens. RGL does a thing without any communication or transparency, there is a public outcry with people ridiculing the league with an occasional admin playing innocent until they kinda bow down quietly just to repeat the process.
Didn't they learn from this stuff by now?

An update on LAN fees is included in RGL's article here.
tl;dr is the fees were in place this season to help support future LANs and LAN staff/volunteers, but because of the uncertainty on when the next LAN will be (cause virus yay), the fees have been removed and refunded this season.

if paying a fee to play 6s and have fun is more important than playing for le epic $15 prize pool share, why dont we make ugc 6s blow up again

Pretty misleading, if not straight up false? The people behind NACL had announced their intentions to make a league happen weeks earlier, pretty soon after it came out that ESEA was dying, but understandably took some time to organize everything enough to make an official announcement.
Most people were not signed up yet. People like to wait to sign up until the very last second even with established leagues, but RGL had made a big announcement how it had secured some invite teams playing (and I seem to recall a post about one of those teams not being aware it had signed up?). And more than that, RGL had intentionally scheduled its first season to start almost immediately after the end of the ESEA season, in some kind of "pick us now or forever hold your peace" kind of play. And I also seem to recall some last second delays anyway once it became clear people weren't signing up on time? But by that point, the decision had already been made.
The timing was all totally arbitrary. Pretty sure that in the end we picked RGL because they offered more prize money. Because apparently we all suffer from some awkward TF2 form of "temporarily embarrassed millionaire" syndrome.

i guess we wait until someone is so fed up with rgl that they just spawn a new league.

Daily reminder that if worked a part time job for like few weeks at max, you'd have made more money than people who have dedicated thousands of hours to the game. Play TF2 for the love of the game and don't let your decisions be influenced by a potential $25 paycheck.
If you want a refund ask helix e-sports for it not RGL. They're the ones who got paid and didn't host the lan.
Also the "It wasn't actually that much" point or whatever, but if people are petty enough to be up in arms over a few dollars then a TFTV post or common sense in general won't be enough to convince them.
Also, why is it that every time RGL makes any decision at all the people here are butthurt and scream "I WANT TO SPAM SLURS AND HARASS PEOPLE WITHOUT PUNISHMENT!" with this thread being "I WANT THINGS THAT COST MONEY GIVEN TO ME WITHOUT PAYING"? I know(well, knew) actual rapists and murderers that are better people than the average TFTV poster.
edit: Please get angry. That's the point :)
