Will there ever be another international LAN

Have we reached a point in the game where the #1 NA and #1 EU team just does not care as to who is better? Do you think we will ever see a serious LAN where teams prepare hardcore for the big summer showdown that will rock your socks off?

When Se7en was still playing I think it was more of b4nny being a little bitch and there not being any NA lans for Se7en to go to. right now we are of course in a pandemic. when corona clears up we should have lans again but whether froyo will ever travel to europe again is totally up in the air.

I think iSeries/Copenhagen are the only way an international LAN will ever happen again, everyone in NA probably lost hope for trying to organize one here again after failing to host one for 2 years now.

Euro LANs also have better alcohol so the choice is clear.

That's because they were being organized by mentally disabled people, tho. I think it's entirely possible to have a big NA lan as long as those who are put in charge of it have an average IQ.

well i think its best to have an on going official venue. all the other times it hasn't been insomnia its been some sort of cringe rushed teams and there's not really any build up/hype about it, but i think banny is justified in not wanting to go there again its just there's kinda no alternative to it

the next ones gotta be planned in advance cause there needs to be enough time for the teams to start try harding and the events to be organised as in the people we choose to produce it to ensure we dont have any dashner issues or issues dat tagg had ever again and these ppl need to be also safeguarded financially and alla that

there should be some sorta fully charged about this talking with banny and whoever is the best europe team i dont even kno who that is whilst we have corona going on i think its an important topic

edit: the aim of this btw should be in order to rekindle what was fun about watching TF2. the viewer count fell rapidly from 1.5k-2k viewers per normal season prem game to like 100 and the fact that i have no idea who is the top euro team is a testament to that. the production and hype has fallen tremendously within the past 3-4 years and there's no way we can convince ourselves as a game its worth shit at this rate. the very upmost important concern of our game will have to be This Lan.

I don't know which seasons this was, but those numbers have only been hit for ESEA and ETF2L playoff games.

and the fact that i have no idea who is the top euro team is a testament to that.

Maybe you just weren't watching, explains the decline in viewers and the not knowing

the production and hype has fallen tremendously within the past 3-4 years

excuse me what?

about the hype in the previous quote: come write match-up articles for TFTV for any league/game mode that gets events posted so people are more inclined to tune in to streams.
-----
To add something actually constructive:
it is not like the TF2 Tournament organizers at Insomnia or Copenhagen Games haven't been in contact with teams well before the event to get Americans, Australians and Asians to fly over, but if there is no saving up from players, sponsors backing teams or timely organized fundraisers paired with stellar perks => no one is going 2k out of pocket to play some jetlagged TF2 with a team that only formed just for the event, because it seems impossible to get stable teams to set up merch and fly in to bootcamp and try to crush the international competition.

this is actually sad that international LANs arent being made anymore. yes we are in the middle of a pandemic, something i predicted 6 months ago really in history class kinda, but thats not the point. there are problems in the competitive tf2 community itself like alfa said about how NA lost all hope for making one after failing to make one for 2 years in a damn row. hell i never lost hope of making a LAN, but people hate me for even having the idea because im such a joke in the first place. but that's perfectly fine with me really, as i dont have the funds to host a LAN of any kind whatsoever. in the end i wanna support people as much as i can, but im not sure how. and this thread is definitely a problem we need to find a solution for, but sadly i cannot be the answer.

it was during the time banny was getting 500 viewers every night that the ESEA games had that much. the playoff ones are the only ones that hit 2k not LAN, but i do remember frequently seeing 1.5k, before essentials tf and alla that so idk if Wiethoof has the exact concrete stats but that would be interesting if i was remembering dat wrong

Copenhagen Games should be an international LAN, but it takes a lot of organization to get non Euro teams over there, and it is something that hasn't come together yet. I'd like to see Froyo put in the effort, as they're already an established brand, and experienced with successful fundraising campaigns, so it shouldn't be THAT difficult, but it seems their desire to go isn't there.

Yes, there is a possibility with enough organisation, time, and dedication. Once one guy says he wants to do it and invites people, the more real it becomes.

while there are discussions with TheFragile about making RGB a 2 day event to ease the stress on him as an organizer and the teams as marathon players, the main concern I've heard from every euro I've asked to try and fly out to RGB is simply that the money isn't worth it for what's essentially a 1 or 2 day event when euro events like iSeries and Copenhagen are 4-5 days of the community being together.

It is a lot easier to swallow an 800+ dollar flight added to the normal LAN costs when you are getting the same out of what you're paying a fraction to travel within your own continent. RGB has also only had on-site alcohol sale so far at the TMG-partnered event iirc, which makes a difference when you factor in people who want to come to LANs to socialize and see old friends/make new ones, especially when Oaks (town where RGB is held, about an hour from downtown philly) is a ghost town after 6PM.

I love RGB and it is my dream for the friends I made in Europe at iSeries and through teamfortress.tv and ETF to come over and be a part of the LAN that I am deeply in love with, but it's just difficult to justify.

Regarding CPH, we had reached out to the top 5 NA teams as well as to the AU scene.
Ofc There were funding problems - we could have helped an NA team get there but at the Cost of a cut from the overall prizepool. When FROYO made clear they couldn’t make it this year, a few others tried to make a mix team. Such a team will only ever happen if you can find 6 tippi top players, because nobody is travelling across the pond to play for third place.

Then corona and Australian wildfires happened anyway and everything went to shit.

TL;DR Copenhagen Definetly wants to be an intercontinental LAN. So far it simply has not come together.

i think TF2 can still be an ‘eSport’ with less/same viewers a ‘dead’ Quake Live was getting ^_^

and its not the same at all. watching current tf2 is never gonna be like watching i58 at this rate is what im saying. the game is fun to play only but not to watch theres big differences stfu if you can’t see it and you think its rhe exact same as back then idk what to tell u ur just lost lol

theres no reason for valve to give any more support than what they are doing now to a 100 viewer game

its not even 100% the game's fault. i think the transisiton from gecks and sideshow and whoever leaving left a toll on watching the official game vs just watching the player stream the official in the first place. no one wanted to hear some braindead middie brit with a shit accent talk over the game when u can just watch the player pov and actually learn something at the same time

now to my understanding its dumtumtm who is somewhat good at what he does, seems to solo practice by himself every chance he gets which is cool, but like thats i.t i have no idea who else is even casting right now other than beater???? no clue at all but i think it killed watching the official stream. i think the actual players get even more views sometimes because of this

alright well theres the caster thing that i just mentioned. just anyone couldve casted once those 2 left it seems

according to the people i just asked, the very top EU team consists of an all american scout combo. i think iv asked a fair amount of ppl and lots just dont know. i dont think you should have to research who this is u should really just know it. never had to figure it out before. not only is that fucking embarrassing but also demonstrates how no one cares

i dont think it was even possible back then to not know who the top players were and actively play at the same time.

Why the fuck do i know the top NA teams but not the top EU teams

i was actually watching the games post i58. i watched all the iseries including i63 which was the first time i got bored watching tf2 which was an 80% talkament followed by average games where the whole bracket consisted of mix teams that never had a shot and then 2 other teams (froyo and seven) as opposed to i58 where multiple teams could've taken it

there were genuine rivarlies and a leadup to the lan which made the matches interesting as in a reason a team would wanna win whereas now its just who cares

the players playing in i58 had individual playstyles that were more fun to watch

ur acting like that number just went down for no reason lol there are lots of reasons

but i mean ok if everyones happy with 100 viewers no valve support nd top eu scout combo is american scouts that arent even the best american scouts then its ok i guess i was just curious as to wat was goin on thats whyi made the thread

my opinions dont even matter the whole idea of this was to hopefully have one of the top players who i didnt kno who they are say some shit like 'yeah man we are actually trying hard' or 'nah we dont care just want to play the game' just wanted to kno how it was going.

the shit i was describing was just how i saw it and see it today dats it im well aware my opinion on that is in the minority as far as the forums go.

actually wat would be more interesting than me saying this shit is ur reasoning for why the numbers went down

my motiviation on making it was thinkign about bannys position as in hes someone whos actively gotta be thinking about the game's progression because thats his literal job but i don't think ive heard anything from this guy in like a year. he just seems content with pub + official every night and there doesnt seem to be much else going on.

u dont really get to see the behind the scenes planning for big events from other places than there so i made the thread cause i was curious am i just gonna watch banny pub now for years to come? is that it? no more LAN or desire to do anything else?
