My sister killed herself. All through the time I knew her, she seemed so cool. she was smart, funny, and she always seemed to know what to say in any situation. She was actually my sister in law, in a relationship with my brother. They met online, and she moved 3 states to get away from her family, regardless i will always think of her as my sister. for 4 years she lived here and it was great, she had her own problems with drugs but once she got away from her family, she didnt use anymore.

All of this changed when her mother moved up here because she "missed" her. It was bullshit, her mother couldn't stand that she was happy, drove her insane. She came up here, gave my sister prescription painkillers and told her she should kill herself to be happy. She told my sister that if she ended it all, she would too and meet her in heaven where they could be happy together. when this was put on top of her medical problems, it became too much for her.

6 months or so after her mother moved here, I was over at their house and i was playing some racing game on my brother's xbox. we were hanging out in the downstairs. We heard this extremely loud bang noise, like someone had tipped over a huge dresser. Being the paranoid my brother is, he insisted that someone had broken in and was upstairs, so he grabbed his gun. I grabbed a machete. We go up the stairs and break into her room, she had shot herself in the head with a handgun.

My brother had a breakdown, and I mostly hid how I felt. Heather always talked about how she was scared people would forget her when she died, and that was her biggest fear. She loved classic rock, and classic country music. Always had some playing softly in their house, I don't really have memories of her without some kind of music playing in the background.

her favorite song was free bird. to this day every time I hear the song or think of it it reminds me of her. I don't believe in an afterlife, but if there is I hope that she knows I will never forget her, and that I remember her as she was, not how she went.
