aside from the obvious "don't take 1v1's" in my experience when fighting a scout by yourself when both of you have no heals, it comes down to whoever hits the first good chunk of damage. once you do 60+ to a scout, depending on the distance from you to him you can chip or decide if its even a fight worth taking. if both of you are full hp, and you hit a few chips for good damage you can hold S so that you don't have to hit hard shots, and can just chip him down. if the most damage possible to hit on a scout is 20 damage, its the same for him as well, and if you have 100 hp and he has 60, all you need to do is hold back. on the other hand, if you get chipped for good damage first you have to not let him play the distance and chip you down even more, you'll need to try and close the distance, or escape.

if its a situation where you have to rush him, like he's backcapping,or you're trying to get behind yourself, you have a pretty big disadvantage. all you can do is try to adad spam as you close distance and try to hit shots, and he knows you have to move forward to block the point, so its easier for him to predict your movement.

typically you want to try to not get into situations where its a mge situation and you're both just spamming adad by yourselves, because that is very inconsistent. but if you're low on hp, or the other dude has a medic healing him, your best bet is to rush into him and try to hit 2 meatshots, assuming theres no chance of you getting away.

the best way to win 1v1's is to play far enough away that if you need to run away, you can do so safely, then call for a teammate to come help you and make it into a 1v2. if you can't get help, and you can't escape, then rushing into people when they least expect it gives you a chance to catch them off guard and get a kill.

another thing you can try is the turn and burn, where if you're losing a 1v1, run away and try to bait the guy into chasing you. once you round a corner, turn around and pre-aim the corner he's going to cross, then try to meatshot him down because he won't expect you to be taking that fight (unless you telegraph it)

its very situational and relies a lot on the distance between you and the other scout. if you round a corner and he's in your face, you just have to hit your shots and hope he misses his. but if someone is actively trying to fight you 1v1, call for a teammate and play far enough back that he can't kill you, and then once it becomes a 1v2 you can be more aggressive.

running away in an even hp situation usually results in a loss, unless you can fully escape. most scouts will chase you hard if they think they can finish you off.

for anyone still having this problem, i just reinstalled all of the fonts in my hud folder and now i can select classes/teams again.

still have this problem, i can use the number keys to select classes but i don't know how to switch teams using the console. typing jointeam blu doesn't work and i couldnt find anything on google about changing teams without using the hud

or if i can just fix this that'd be good too

unplugging my controller did not fix this, i've restarted steam, verified cache and uninstalled my hud.
