#19 Steam now has paid workshop mods in Off Topic
GentlemanJonIs it the whole idea or the 25% to modders you don't like?

I'm not entirely opposed to the idea.

Developers do have a right to earn revenue on their work if people use it for a mod IMO and having mods be streamlined and easy to download/find is cool. However, they shouldn't be earning 75% thats for damn sure, the modders are the one doing the work and addding content to their game for a much lower price than if done by a professional. They're not having to commit any labor besides allowing them to use their content and earn money for free essentially.

In addition, many developers have essentially hinged on mod support for the life-cycle of their games (Bethesda again) and these mods often fix all the problems that the devs dont, for free, and now just want to cash out on the fans who have kept them afloat despite them releasing buggy and shitty ports.

That doesnt even begin to describe what will happen to the modding community as everyone must begin to guard their creations like a jealous drake resulting in a lot less creative diffusion and the likely reduction/destruction to various modding sites which have seen so much value and creativity added to games.

And finally, both good and bad mods have been free forever. There is a distinct possibility following the trend in upward price for DLC and games that these mods prices will be stupid and all in all people will just continue to pirate them hurting modders who are trying to now make a living and hurting the content creation for mods.

Overall: The idea is cool but seems to be a blatant cash grab to exploit fans and talented modders with no forethought into how it will affect the community.

#16 Steam now has paid workshop mods in Off Topic

It's pretty obvious this a money grab by Valve and various companies whose games have seen huge amount of mod development (Fucking Bethesda) trying to pass of this announcement as some sort of benevolence the same way companies try to pass of their own greed saying they're "Job Creators".

Do i think its good that people will get paid for work previously done for free? Sure.

Do i think its going to create a shitstorm of potential legal ramifications, highway robbery of content creators, and the decline/destruction of the talented modding community. Absolutely.

#25 question about the donks in TF2 General Discussion
deetrAvastA demo with loose cannon is even more vulnerable at close range due to low damage of cannonballs alone.
Ya except for the fact that the cannonballs launch your opponent away from you. If you are in a close range fight and you land a cannonball, it usually isn't a close range fight anymore.

So you possibly take 60 damage max with a direct and generally get thrown back a little bit, if you're a scout or soldier you're generally well within range to kill the demo still especially considering he's not using pipes.

That doesnt even include the fact that a demo is at risk for even higher self damage while fighting at close range due to the cannonball's ability to explode in the demos face.

Overall the loose cannon makes the demo even weaker at close range and worsens his ability to spam everything that isnt a choke. The only time I've ever seen the loose cannon be really effective is on lasts where it shines and is a good defensive weapon or in pugs, because in pugs the coordination is generally nothing compared to scrims or matches.

I'm pretty sure most people are here complaining because it sucks to play against in pugs because everyone stacks up in chokes and doesnt jump the demo who is incapable of defending himself at close range with it.

brooky12I thought Bdonski does?

He did rarely, because stock is overall better in most situations. Loose cannon is really only good in certain situations.

#12 question about the donks in TF2 General Discussion
Raytekthe loose cannon is nearly an upgrade over the stock pipes

advantages over stock
+able to drop a medic from full / kill a scout in 1 donk
+knockback ubers/players
+charge and det to kill low health players instead of directing them
+projectile speed over stock
+very dumb "spam angles" possible on maps with open chokes like process
+able to overcharge jump (possibly useful to get out of a bad situation with no stickies)

stock advantages
+sentry spam? (not an issue in 6s)
+rollers (soldiers are better at spamming corners on stalemates)

its not so much a matter of "is this overpowered?" as it is "is this weapon not fun to play against?" and id have to argue the latter

A demo with loose cannon is even more vulnerable at close range due to low damage of cannonballs alone.

A demo with loose cannon has a lower effective spam range besides just rollers due to the cannonball exploding before reaching any real distance compared to stock.

The loose cannon is only very useful on lasts and a few mids compared to stock. If your ubers are getting fucked by everyone walking through chokes together well the easy solution is to not do that, spam would fuck you up anyways.

In addition to get a double donk you need to time your projectiles in addition to aiming a weapon with grenade launcher like trajectory, making it arguably one of the harder weapons to use effectively outside of spamming chokes.

Don't ban this weapon pls. Its the only thing that was ever added to demo that wasnt broken or useless.

#5 question about the donks in TF2 General Discussion

Loose cannon is the only viable demo alternative weapon that is not a melee currently in existence. Enough said.

that makes me very disappointed in our law enforcement system
