#18 TF2 Matchmaking, lets talk Valve in TF2 General Discussion

I just want less downtime with the games, that is what I find the most frustrating with casual at least. This goes for both competitive friends I play with and casual friends.

Sitting in a queue for 4-5 minutes

Joining a server and waiting for a 1-2 minute pregame

Sitting through a 1-2 minute setup

Just to play 2 rounds and repeat the exact same cycle, its so much downtime for minimal gameplay. If anything I just wish for a return to Valve servers on 45 minute map rotations with ability to vote extend and all that jazz. It was so nice to just join and play whatever map I like without worrying its gonna be a 5 minute roll and leave to another map immediately. I don't even feel like XP would be a problem here either because you can just give XP per round rather than per game to make it immediately more compatible with this kind of server configuration.

As for competitive idk I just can't really ever seeing it take off without it heavily detracting from casual if you want to make them similar so the community will remain harshly against any advancements of the mode. Aside from that its a lot of general requests people have had from day 1. Less restricting graphical options, viewmodels, class limits and maps more catered to the mode.

I would say it is pretty unwise to just deem a map shit because you've just downloaded it for the first time and have no idea how to play it. I do doubt it'll be fun to play in a more organised fashion but still at least in our scrim neither team had ever played the map myself included (I think) but just kept saying it was a bad map. But that is where I'll say I'm assuming majority of people haven't played cardinal prior it being voted in which may not be true. The other thing I would say if you think the map has serious issues then offer some more constructive criticism.

On another note entirely I do think this veto system is incredibly bad for tf2 even though I know it wasn't put in place for tf2. It is going to make finding scrims a lot more difficult solely because it isn't really in any teams interest to play maps they aren't playing in their match. But maybe it won't be as hard to find scrims because majority of people will probably not veto process, gully or snake so scrims will likely be plentiful for those maps. But that also means an even more limited map pool if that is all people ever wish to play.

I think the game would be much better with one map per week rather than the veto system for both ability to find scrims and for teams to be able to commit more time to practice in a meaningful way, having only 48 hours to practice a map sucks.
