#52 My FPS config in Customization
cardanI don't know what it was in this config but my mouse feels a lot snappier than when I used m0re's or Chris' configs. I never really had a problem with my FPS when using those, but the mouse always felt...floaty? Anyways, it's perfect with this config so thank you.

pretty sure I am the only one of those cfgs that added the "m_rawinput 1"

#2 Bad Load Times in Q/A Help
Knuckles_My TF2 used to load a map in ~10 seconds, now it has slowed to be anywhere from 50-100 seconds.

Along with this the game will randomly stutter and skip for a second, or psuedo-crash and freeze up for as long as a minute. Any tips?

P.S. The change happened overnight so no malware or viruses are causing the problem (I have also done virus checks to be sure)

I have also verified my tf2 files

Are you on a HDD?

If you are it's entirely possible the drive is failing.

-edit-
that or your install of TF2 is horrifyingly fragmented

#172 this is why we have LAN finals in TF2 General Discussion
mebhow fucking funny would it be if, upon careful review and scrutinization of m4risa's demos, the admins do a full 360 and announce that they have unanimously decided to ban axiom indefinitely from UGC for admitting to cheating in another game

real justice

You mean 180, but yeah that would be kinda hilarious. Actually more than kinda...

RhapsodyThat's... interesting. Why would it decrease FPS that much just by a value change? What does it do visually other than allow Halloween hats? If that's the cause, does using the NoHats mod counteract it?

While idk -everything- that the Halloween/Full Moon mode does here's some of them.

    Halloween Hats
    New Textures for Health Kits

I suspect this is most likely inefficient code for checking if Halloween/Full Moon Mode is turned on.

So i've noticed when using your hud and enabling outlines almost every time their's a 3-5pixel gap between the Crosshair/Damage Number and the outline. Am I the only one experiencing this?

isadnowYeah because full moon mode on.Don't worry if off, again u take back +10 fps.

That actually effects FPS by that much...

6.25% decrease in FPS :/

Updated my CFG small fps gain 2-4%

// ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
// HUD
// ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
hud_saytext_time 10 //Default is 12 and measured in seconds, this is the amount of time chat stays on your screen
voice_enable 1 //Default is 1, This is the voice chat in the game 1 = on, 0 = off
hud_deathnotice_time 5 // Default is 6, This the the death notices that usually appear at the top right of the screen
hud_achievement_glowtime 0 // Default is 2.5, not 100% what this is about a 1.5% fps boost.
hud_achievement_count 0 //Default is 8, Max number of achievements that can be shown on the HUD
hud_achievement_tracker 0 // Default is 1, Show or hide the achievement tracker

I need to do more testing apparently, cause I tested this just before tonight's update and I had a full 8 extra FPS, and immediatly after I have about 14 less fps than before!?!

-edit-
So this is my framerate on my last cfg for this update

2639 frames 12.561 seconds 210.10 fps ( 4.76 ms/f) 9.532 fps variability

What it was...

2639 frames 11.770 seconds 224.22 fps ( 4.46 ms/f) 11.665 fps variability

So my update to my CFG still stands as it's still a small FPS boost, but you will get less FPS cause this update did something odd :/

ToasterComangliaToasterit crashes when I use it?ComangliaWARNING unstable for Single/Dual/Tri Core CPUs
Their's is 2 commands in this CFG that are not stable for people that don't use quad cores.

cl_threaded_bone_setup 1
r_queue_decals 1 (some have said this is unstable while cl_threaded_bone_setup 1 isn't for them)

i use a quad core...

Did you miss this?

springrollsI have an fx-8320 (8 cores for reference) and r_queue_decals is really unstable for me. Probably just an amd thing, or maybe it's just my particular chip.

I've tested this on a system with a AMD Phenom II x4 945 and one with the 940. It's still entirely possible it's not stable for everyone, but not necessarily all AMD cpus.

#95 Rhapsody's Performance Config in Customization
WithADanceNumberdoes anyone know which commands i can increase the quality on that only really effect my video card? I know most of what causes lag is CPU intensive, but I figure I could put my GPU to work on some things and get better fps. I guess picmip comes to mind, anything else that might?

As far as I know the commands in TF2 are pretty black and white. They are either CPU or GPU

i.e. mat_picmip -1 is gpu, so will 0/1/2 so no matter what setting you pick if you're CPU bound your framerate shouldn't change.

Fairly certain you can go full AA, mat_picmip -1, and 16x anistropic filters and experience no FPS drop on a majority of systems.

some I know off hand

mat_forceaniso 16
mat_picmip -1
mat_filterlightmaps 1
mat_filtertextures 1

the command that controls HDR lighting should be GPU bound as well can't recall atm

KOBAComangliaKOBACitroMaindTested and saw that there's no difference if the no hats mod is on or off. Doesn't make a difference. Personal preference I'd say. ( using m0res fps config. ) Will check this out tommorow to see if its worth switching from m0res.nohats mod doesn't work on sv_pure 2 servers anymore after the last update that's why i guess .
I played a scrim just yesterday and it was working fine...
played a lobby doesn't work for me, Harbs said he is emailing tf2 team about it .

well shit...

HUDs

Since HUD elements DO have an affect on FPS I though I'd test some huds to see if they actually do much

HUDs

Stock

2639 frames 11.849 seconds 222.72 fps ( 4.49 ms/f) 11.395 fps variability

Stock Minimal

2639 frames 11.829 seconds 223.09 fps ( 4.48 ms/f) 11.771 fps variability

Rayshud Minimal

2639 frames 11.673 seconds 226.07 fps ( 4.42 ms/f) 10.955 fps variability

BastHUD

2639 frames 11.964 seconds 220.58 fps ( 4.53 ms/f) 12.190 fps variability

broeselHUD

2639 frames 11.866 seconds 222.40 fps ( 4.50 ms/f) 11.479 fps variability

flatHUD

2639 frames 11.735 seconds 224.88 fps ( 4.45 ms/f) 10.691 fps variability

kbnHUD

2639 frames 11.846 seconds 222.77 fps ( 4.49 ms/f) 12.782 fps variability

Teamfortress.tv HUD

2639 frames 11.763 seconds 224.34 fps ( 4.46 ms/f) 12.086 fps variability

I will be adding more HUDs

Odd I saw roughly a 5% increase. What kind of system do you have?
