popcorpr_pixelfog 1/0 - Can potentially boost your FPS, makess your game look foggy tho, Dxlevel 90+ only

I'll give this a try and add it as an option if it works.

EDIT: Looks like r_pixelfog is set to 1 by default. I'll play around with it some more, though.

EDIT2: r_pixelfog 1 means that pixel fog is off by default. Setting it to 0 shows the fog, but it's not like normal map fog that is used as an optimization; this fog decreases FPS by 20~ in idle situations and isn't beneficial in active situations.

does anyone know which commands i can increase the quality on that only really effect my video card? I know most of what causes lag is CPU intensive, but I figure I could put my GPU to work on some things and get better fps. I guess picmip comes to mind, anything else that might?

As far as I know the commands in TF2 are pretty black and white. They are either CPU or GPU

i.e. mat_picmip -1 is gpu, so will 0/1/2 so no matter what setting you pick if you're CPU bound your framerate shouldn't change.

Fairly certain you can go full AA, mat_picmip -1, and 16x anistropic filters and experience no FPS drop on a majority of systems.

some I know off hand

mat_forceaniso 16
mat_picmip -1
mat_filterlightmaps 1
mat_filtertextures 1

the command that controls HDR lighting should be GPU bound as well can't recall atm

Added some more convars and a new experimental convar section. Convars in this section may have a supposed FPS gain or none at all, and are undergoing testing. They arent' detrimental to FPS however, by the looks of it. If you're experiencing crashes, then just delete everything in that section and comment it, or, if you want to help out, comment convars until you figure out which one is causing crashes and report it.

Thanks to Comanglia for helping me find some convars. I'm still looking through the entire convar list for TF2, though, to see if I can find anything else helpful.

So, here's the current state of things. Comanglia and I have been working together with other people in his FPS config thread to find out what convars we can still use to make an FPS benefit. As far as we can tell, there's a potential that we're either missing some beneficial convars, or we've hit a wall and can't optimize TF2 this way any longer. That being said, I decided to fool around with the particle editor and see how it works, and you know what? It turns out that I can get my way around it extremely easily.

In other words, once I feel like getting around to it, I'll probably optimize all of the TF2 particles to be less intensive in one way or another and release it. The reason I feel like doing this myself instead of recommending another pack is because of the fact that most other packs seem to be outdated, and not optimizing new particles. Further, you can pack multiple particles into one .pcf; if Valve adds a new particle to a pcf file, that particle won't be able to be seen if you use a pack that isn't updated. I want to make a pack that WILL stay updated.

If you want to know stuff about particles, ask this guy, he made some improved vanilla particles, and probably knows a lot

As far as I know particle mods don't work on sv_pure servers, but if they do massive fps improvements would become possible.

Under most circumstances they don't, unless they're whitelisted. While most servers don't do this, communities like Firepowered do, and we could askaround. It's an FPS improvement in general, anyhow, so I might as well do it.

It would be really nice to get competitive leagues to allow them as well but I doubt it considering ESEA has a record of banning FPS improvement mods, and UGC -might- but it's unlikely. ETF2L they might, but not sure.

I didn't either, it looks like it binds itself to an unbinded key on startup. I'll move the F7 bind in a future version to use a different key so that it doesn't do that.

A new reduced particle pack would be amazing. I've had a go at updating one of the old packs, but didn't get very far with it.

This has been happening to numerous people, but not others, and I don't know how to reproduce it. All I can recommend for the time being is to put the commands you want to use at the very bottom of autoexec.cfg so that they run on each launch.

New update is out, I commented host_thread_mode since people were having issues with it in some situations. If you're still experiencing issues, set it to 0 by typing 'host_thread_mode 0' in console.

Hello, thanks for your awesome fps cfg. It already gives me 10 fps more than chris' maxfps cfg but ,I'm not an expert so I might be wrong, I think your fps cfg lacks some elements that could boost the fps even more, for example:

    "pixelated" weapons
    "pixelated" buildings/floor
    "pixelated" player models

All these "pixelated" things are present in stabbyfps cfg so maybe you need to look there in order to add them into your fps cfg.
Again, I'm sorry for my english or if I said something stupid, I justed wanted to give you some ideas to make your cfg even better.

Stabby's pixelated stuff is due to him forcing his graphics card to run on a lower level of detail, not any cvars as far as I know.

d4m0 is pretty spot on, plus that doesn't actually help FPS at all.

Got some minor glitches (which are actually annoying) after installing the cfg for some reason. They appear when you start TF2:
This is how the connect screen looks when you start TF2 by connecting to a server.
Trying to access inventory for the first time causes this.

What could cause these problems?

Not sure about the first one, but changing resolutions is usually what gives me the second glitch. You just have to go into the inventory, back out and go back in, it'll be fine after that. Same for viewing your class loadout, that might be blank as well.

Thought the same at first. This did happen before and was fine after a while. But this time, it happens every single time I start the game.
Also, I tried it with default HUD. The inventory opens at first try, but loading screen remains the same.

I installed rhapsody's config didn't get the errors. Then I installed rayshud and I am getting the inventory error on every startup. There's a conflict somewhere in rayshud I'm assuming. I'm not sure about the connect screen though. I'll keep rayshud installed for today and see if it comes up at all.

I'd like to point out that I don't check this thread out too often anymore, since this is really the only thing I do on tf.tv. If you want to report issues and make sure they're solved ASAP, I would suggest posting them on my github page instead.

On that note, I've made various improvements to my config, such as adding an automatic updater so that you're always at the latest version. If you want a full changelog, you can view it here.

Is there a string that can cause mouse acceleration? After I starting using this config, I can't get rid of my mouse acceleration. Even if I'm using "-useforcedmparms -noforcemaccel -noforcemspd" in my launch options, I still have it.

Thanks in advance.

The config has been updated and now matches performance with Comanglia's config as long as you enable rpc_experimental_on. Note that if you don't have four cores, you might crash when using experimental mode.
