Btw I updated this last night.
change list
- commented out cl_threaded_bone_setup due to it no longer being a valid command
- added cl_setupallbones 0
- removed 2 redundant commands
commands that I'm still testing
lzma_persistent_buffer 1 default = 0
"If set, attempt to keep a persistent buffer for the LZMA decoder dictionary. This avoids re-allocating a ~16-64meg buffer for each operation, at the expensive of keeping extra memory around when it is not in-use."
Personally I don't think this will help much within benchmark demos this doesn't seem to do anything. More info on LZMA
commands I didn't realize exist and may test later
cl_showtextmsg 0/1 (probably just turns text chat off/on) default = 1
cl_ShowBoneSetupEnts 0/1 default = 0 pretty sure this will lower fps by turning it on or do nothing not sure
btw noticed
cl_threaded_bone_setup 0/1 is still on the list of TF2 console commands, but it doesn't do anything ingame now...
there's alot more I need to go over but looking at Felik's config as well it looks like his is really well updated so if any of you want to make a hop to his here it is. Might be better than mine :P
Hey man notice you updated this. https://gitlab.com/felik/TF2-Config
Looks great dude.
There's only 1 thing I have to comment on.
mat_antialias 0
this should probably be commented out or set to 1 you can have 0 aliasing as that would mean nothing would render on a screen, some people say this fucks with input lag when set to 1 so you may just want to comment this out. Setting this to 0 just means it will take slightly longer to load the game.
sibbyowlcometdoes the 144hz command also work for 60hz?
Don't use -refresh 144 if the max your monitor can handle is 60Hz.
If you mean -refresh 60 yes that works.
Carlotso25Yeah, played around a bit on 24 man servers cross some maps, lowest I dipped was 132 or so, significantly better. Will chalk that up to just having net_graph open. Thanks.
If I were to upgrade my rig for TF2 purposes, do you have any recommendations?
I'm on a Gigabyte H97-D3H for motherboard.
Setsul will have the best answers, but for the most part intel i7 if you plan on doing background stuff or video editing along with playing TF2 or an i5. If you can handle overclocking get an overclocking variant and get some good cooling for your CPU and OC it to somewhere in the 4.5-5GHz range. 4.5GHz should be relatively easy to get with most i7 and i5 k series CPUs just don't put the voltage above 1.4 unless you REALLY know what you're doing. Otherwise high speed ram with low Cas Latency is the next best thing to recommend.
Example of my PC build
► Main Board: Asus Z87-A ATX
► CPU: Intel i7-4790K @4.8 GHz
► SSD: Crucial M4 SSD 250GB
►Hard Drive: 1TB SeaGate 7200RPM
► CPU Fan: Phanteks PH-TC14PE
► GPU: ASUS GTX 1070 8GB ROG STRIX OC
► Memory: G.Skill Sniper Series 32GB 1866MHz
► PSU: Cooler Master VSM 650W 80+ Gold
► Windows: W10 64-Bit
► Case: Fractal Design Define R4 (Gun Metal)
My minimum FPS in a 24 person badwater server is 205 in DX 9
oktober_ComangliaMake sure you have "-refresh 144" in your launch options and if you use windowed or borderless windowed mode that your desktop is also set to 144Hz.
Also among other things go to your Nvidia Control panel settings "Manage 3D settings" go to "Program settings" and either under TF2 or Global (if you want this to affect every game) set "maximum pre-rendered frames" to 1. Seriously every competitive player should do this for the game they play, if they have an nvidia card. AMD users are typically defaulted to 1 for FPS games and 2 for almost everything else so it's not as big of an issue.
fuck me thank you so much, my game feels so much smoother after this
No problem man.
Carlotso25Seems relatively the same. Think I'm going to clean my CFG's and launch options and try fresh. Which of your configs do you recommend? And which is the in thing atm, DX9 or 8?
Also I check my Task Manager, and TF2 isn't even taking up 20% on the cpu. I don't know.
*Edit* I've tried em all. Right now I'm testing on 81. Haven't stuck to one inparticular.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/3l82p8udwrq680d/gfx.cfg?dl=0
this one for you at least, going to be adding a couple more commands to it later today/tomorrow
Also 20% cpu usage sounds about right for 8 threaded cpus.
But yeah with your setup you minimum fps for DX 8.1 no shadows, no hats, my fps config, should be roughly around ~140 in a 24 person server.
MarxistI already have duct tape and electrical tape and it works just as well - my preference is actually scotch tape because I'm a high sens kinda guy and scotch tape is pretty slippery :D
I'm all about not spending 5$ on stuff I'll never use very much or have to wait to ship.
The little white mouse feet of the DA will prolly last 2-3 years before you start noticing an increase in the amount of drag - if you're a low sens user you likely won't notice/care at all - if anything your performance will get better with age lol.
You know you could order the hyperglides for like maybe $10 and you will have mouse feet that will last for years, and while you wait for you can use the scotch tape lol.

I've read that sometimes CPU bound games get a FPS boost from this (this hasn't been the case for me afaik but it's been awhile) should also decrease your overall input lag if you haven't done this.
also forgot to ask which -dxlevel do you use?
Carlotso25Yep to both.
And down to 80 or so. 70 on Upward (though I assume that map is still trash.)
You still have my config installed?
Do you have shadows enabled?
Do you have the no hats mod?
Power Options set to High Performance? Disabling Xbox DVR?
Also what do you consider a dip?

Any reason you haven't included it in your FPS guide?
Not everyone has nvidia cards, it doesn't actually improve FPS for the majority of users, and tbh I didn't know about it when I first made the thread as I've only ever had AMD/ATI cards up until last year.
fucking axiomatic threads win for me, they always had a very interesting ride

EC2-A is a great mouse, and hyperglides are excellent mouse feet way better than the stock zowie ones. If I didn't already have one I'd grab this.
Curious question though kawa is this an BenQ EC2-A with the Omron Switches or with the Huano switches
