#27 A simple custom config generator in Customization
AlfieSquidamatron200There are now buttons to use network settings presets for good, bad and competitive connectionAren't those options just placebo? As far as I'm aware interp's lowest possible value is 0.014 and *rate can only go as high as 66the competitive connection settings will only work on servers that are set up on a different tick rate I believe

Yep, I added those for when someone started advertising a pug test group for a 128 Tick server pretty sure that's long dead now though.

#11 Windowed vs. Full Screen: Which is better? in TF2 General Discussion

Windowed is typically about ~5% fps drop, input lag feel may vary a bit on PC setup, for example mine feels virtually the same regardless if I use borderless windowed or fullscreen other than the slightly lower FPS for some people it might be pretty bad.

Alt+Tabbing out of a Borderless windowed might be a bit weird in multi-monitor setups. In my case the game remains in the back ground and it makes it an issue to where I can't see my desktop on my primary monitor until I minimize the window (Windows Key+Down Arrow)

My recommendation, try borderless windowed if the input lag/lower FPS is not noticeable/doesn't bother you and you enjoy fast alt+tabs or have a multi-monitor setup I'd use borderless window.

Some helpful notes if you go borderless windowed.

-If you enjoy a non-native resolution for TF2 set your desktop to that resolution as well so the borderless window is full screen. Your video card control panel should have options for centered timings and if you want use stretched etc etc. SIDE NOTE: make sure your desktop is set to the same refresh rate as what you want to play

-some key commands (Windows Key+Down Arrow to minimize selected window) (windows key + m minimizes all windows) (shift + windows key + m Undo minimize all) (windows key + D Minimizes all open windows and displays the desktop)

-your only choice for changing brightness/gamma in TF2 is your monitor OSD or video card settings. Which is kinda lame :/

Hopps//Filters scary red text from the console

con_filter_enable 1
con_filter_text_out "particle"
con_filter_text_out "material"
con_filter_text_out "muzzle"
con_filter_text_out "Cannot update control point"
con_filter_text_out "doesn't have attachment"

I don't believe you can filter out multiple strings.

If I recall that's my bad, I never fixed it :/

yahooalso why do you set rate to 60000 if the default value is 80000

Again my thing, I sat in a 32 person pub servers with my rate set to 100,000 I noticed in terms of bits the highest I ever reached was roughly 62,000 which lasted for less than a couple seconds, unless the game starts supporting higher tick rates I doubt the standard 24person pub will ever reach north of 55000 let alone 6s.

#6 A simple custom config generator in Customization
200Hello there, fellow players!

As a lot of people tend to complain about how awful and outdated tf2mate is (not to give it's author a dig, I was using it myself for a while, untill I started to care about what I have in my cfg folder, its good but it generates too much stuff), I wrote a very simple basic TF2 config generator. It works kinda like tf2mate, with a bit less possibilities, but it can include heavy binaries like NoHatsMod, explosion smoke script, etc. In fact, there is a possibility to include any custom files that you usually have to carry over your PCs, HUDs and so on.

>>> mkrl.github.io/cfgen/ <<<
  1. Click on stuff
  2. Select what you need
  3. Extract to your /tf folder

100% Javascript-powered and "open-source". Works in any modern browser.
  • All the settings are separated just in a few files (settings, binds, gfx, network, custom).
Nothing overly complicated, but it works.
  • Some settings are provided as I had them (like, no viewmodels), but very soon there will be a possibility to manually change all the core cvars like FOV, class specific viewmodels, crosshairs, etc. For now all this is set into settings.cfg.
  • Feel free to report all the things you don't like here or my GitHub repo. You can clone this and use offline (makes sence a bit, but you will have to dive into my garbage code). However, its pretty simple to add your custom files if you are a bit familiar with JavaScript).
  • I'm looking for all the suggestions on what custom files / configs / anything else I should add to this. The more, the better. I post all the updates here.

tl;dr: tf2mate analog with vpk support and less shit inside

How do you have the configs setup does it pull from the download link I setup or did you download the files for this. I might be updating my configs soon so kinda curious.
-edit-
seeing as you still have good ole toaster in there I assume you downloaded it and rehosted it lol.

#7 Mic recommendations? in Hardware
KevinIsPwnIf you are down with having a bulkier setup with really good audio quality, go buy a nice XLR mic (I use an MXL 990) 2nd hand off a local or online shop, and hook it up to your PC with a setup like this:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005HH2GCQ/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1489258785&sr=8-1-spons&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=xlr+to+usb&psc=1

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00KAPGLQC/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1489258926&sr=8-2-spons&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=xlr+phantom+power&psc=1

Why would you use a condenser when you're only trying to record your voice?

#11 Is scout too strong? in TF2 General Discussion

Nah, other classes just need to be made better.

Demo Buffs that would be cool

-revert sticky nerf (or at least remove the whole rampup bs)
-remove tumble and spin from projectiles similar to how the loch-n-load works
-fix the sticky detonation delay (might not be easy but should definitely happen)

Soldier Buffs that would be cool

-I really like the idea of making the soldier take gunboats self-damage all the time, and just removing gunboats, might be to much of a buff but would be interesting at the very least.

All the other classes need various little fixes or a near complete redo (looking at you pyro), but I doubt any of them would be as effective as scout, but would definitely make them better/less of a pain to play and play against.

#10 Game stutters/jitters when regening in Q/A Help
Hellbenthekswhat are your system specs and what are your temps?i5 3570K @ 4GHz, GTX 970, 8GB DDR3 RAM on W10.
Temp seems to be around 100C but I'm not sure why it's that high. I usually watch a stream while playing but I don't see how that would give me such high cpu temps.

100c is way to fucking high for a CPU, I'm amazed your PC didn't auto power off

Clean your PC and make sure all your fans work in it.

#383 TF2 benchmarks in TF2 General Discussion
mousiopehas anyone done any benchmarks with ryzen ?
i know tf2 is clock hungry but im curious to know how this new architecture translates to old source engine games

A rough guess a Ryzen @ 4GHz full time it would probably be in the ball park of 170-190 on this benchmark with my cfg and 16:9 aspect ratio.

THEBILLDOZERI'm running a 950 at 1440p, all low settings and averaging 70 fps
Edit: 900p

so you're running the game 1600 x 900 or 1440 x 900 (I only ask cause that's the only way I can imagine someone mistaking 1440p vs 900p)
