det-your improvement is really easily noticeable, I watch demos from 3-6 months ago and it looks like a completely different person playing the game
I was going to say the same thing.
Improvement feels manageable compared to some other competitive games like Street Fighter, Quake, DOTA, or Counter Strike. You can go from Amateur to Advanced in a year if you get the right mentoring and practice consistently. It's hard to do that with some of those other games I listed because the skill gap is so big across ranks and the gap gets larger and larger the higher the rank, it can feel like you get stuck in Intermediate Hell for a long time, and it's not abnormal to be stuck there.
Catching up with higher skilled players in TF2 doesn't feel impossible, and yet, the skill ceiling is really, really high. It's a nice balance.
