glider is a good player and a cool dude
jynx seems very nice and likes to mge
face2facehey look at these cute cap points
on this note, is there any particular reason cap point/objective images aren't whitelisted in sv_pure? it would really improve a lot of huds.
I think that viewmodels and other graphical restrictions in matchmaking are important to the aesthetic of the game, and I think aesthetics are often overlooked by the competitive community because our primary focus is always gameplay. But streaming is bringing lots of exposure to competitive TF2 (the top streamers have all been doing tons of competitive matchmaking) and aesthetic quality is very important for streams, especially for new players/viewers and the casual community.
You have to remember that matchmaking really wasn't made for the tiny competitive community. It is an effort to bring competitive content to the largely untapped casual community, so it has to appeal to them just as much as us, if not even more than us.
I think an interesting compromise would be to only require certain restrictions if you are streaming matchmaking, but this could potentially lower the amount of players streaming and/or playing matchmaking, plus I have no idea how this would be enforced.
Personally, I don't think that viewmodels and various other graphical settings (save maybe ragdolls) are worth the hassle and backlash. Doesn't matter how the stream looks if the streamers are constantly bashing the system, and even the casual r/tf2 community shows significant resistance to some of these decisions. Matchmaking would be much more well-received if it wasn't packaged with these restrictions.
However, being well-received by the existing audience is probably not enough to turn this game into the eSport we've been hoping for; not the kind that tens of thousands watch and hundreds of thousands play regularly. That kind of growth might require significant change to our competitive TF2 experience, and if Valve attempts it, change could mean a lot more than the customizability of your viewmodels.
truktrukI disagree that we all suck, but if you (or anyone that thinks the same) could provide some constructive criticism, it would help everyone. It's kind of shitty to be talked down upon then receive no feedback on how to improve.
You and Yimi have been the primary NA casters this season.
Yimi has trouble putting his thoughts into words and communicating efficiently (as indicated by his frequent pausing and stuttering); because of this, there have been many occasions where you elected to speak for him or simply cut him off to resume play-by-play casting.
Aside from resulting in obvious mechanical issues, this leaves the viewers with a dearth of analysis, a problem that is only exacerbated both by the relative lack of in-game experience for the casters and by the overall lower skill level of the Invite division in recent seasons.
There have been a couple of occasions where Invite players have simultaneously casted or reviewed matches alongside the TFTV cast, and their content is almost always more informative (despite typically involving less man-power) because these players are more able to predict and explain scenarios. Personally, there are some old demo reviews that have taught and continue to teach me valuable information about the game, but these recent NA casts have only really been able to teach me about the players in the server.
Several of your winpanel elements aren't using positional modifiers and therefore aren't compatible with different aspect ratios.
Konceptyou may not feel like it, but you're certainly coming off as that.
That's like four people so far who have shared that sentiment but nobody has pointed out exactly what it is I've done wrong. At this point I mostly feel guilty for derailing this thread, although I feel it necessary to defend myself.
All Hypnotize has really done (as far as I'm concerned) is take huds that people have given him, regardless of whether or not they're the "official version" or not and update them.
How is this any different from the request I am making (which, once again, he is free to ignore)? In simple terms, all I did was request an update for KNHUD and BXHUD. However, since both of these HUDs are already being maintained, this is an understandably confusing proposal (as demonstrated by his inquisitive replies), which prompted me to elaborate (per his request) as to exactly what I was asking for and why. In no way in this thread have I been criticizing his efforts or decisions. All I've done is make impartial observations and appropriate requests.
_KermitFucking hell man you're being super entitled right now, it's really not that much work to update huds and if you have updated the others yourself then you know it's not much work. You're literally being a dickhead to a guy that's giving his free time to help others out.
I don't mean to derail this thread, but I don't feel as though I am "being a dickhead". I made a request (which is something plenty of other people in this thread have been doing) that was somehow misunderstood, so I elaborated as requested by Hypnotize himself, all the while conceding that he has exactly zero obligation to actually fulfill my requests if he chooses not to. There is nothing I could have done to be more polite except to have not made the request in the first place, which is completely at odds with the trend of this thread (which, again, he has no obligation to continue that trend).
Hypnotize has not yet stated whether he:
a) simply prefers to maintain the old KNHUD and custom BXHUD, or
b) is/is not willing to maintain my requested versions of KNHUD and BXHUD
Either of these responses would be fine, and if he wants to ignore me or tell me to fuck off then that's okay too, but I would prefer not being depicted as some asshole forcing him to do my HUD dirty-work or belittling his current efforts, because neither of those things are true.
Maybe his responses were an implied "no" with no justification required and I just misinterpreted them as misunderstandings of my original request, in which case I apologize, but it didn't seem that way due to his rhetoric.
T0mThats why the old kn hud is updated. Someone asked for that specific version to be updated. If you wanted the newer type of kn hud/any any hud to be updated you should of just asked.
This is literally what I'm doing; asking for him to update the newest official versions of KNHUD, BXHUD, etc. instead of or in addition to the custom versions he's updated so far.
You can always just learn to update huds yourself instead of whining on this thread.
I've been making HUDs since before Hypnotize joined this website. I know how to update HUDs. I have updated versions of everything from Ell's HUD, FKHUD, yaHUD, etc. This is a lot of upkeep, and KNHUD/BXHUD are particularly out of date. Hypnotize seems to be taking requests, and I made some requests.
EricI updated it hello?
You're updating a version of KNHUD that is not the latest official version; therefore, every version you update looks different than what KNHUD used to look like the last time most people used it. I was wondering if you would update the newest, official version of the HUD. This could have been a yes or no answer instead of paragraphs of mislead rhetoric.
HypnotizeThe new bxhud (bx by cb actually) had the background under the scoreboard, i didn't add it... same for the kn hud I have been asked to update the original version of it and not some kind of update, that's it.
Right, you're using an unofficial BXHUD mod and an outdated KNHUD (among others) for your updates.
I was requesting that you switch to the newest official versions instead of these customized versions; obviously you are entitled to staying with your custom versions if you prefer. If you truly did not intend to include any "modifications" then this seems to be a logical step to take.
HypnotizeSome examples of """"modifications"""" I made?
I haven't checked the majority of your HUDs but I can tell you that Broeselhud comes with low-ammo warning off by default. Your KNHUD is based off an old version, the newest official KNHUD looks more like Gunblade's version but without the background on the scoreboard (perhaps other things too, I forget). BXHUD shouldn't have a background under the scoreboard either.
Point is, I don't remember every little thing that you modified or grabbed from unofficial sources, so it's almost impossible for me to actually reverse-engineer the HUDs to look the way they're supposed to. No need to get snarky with the quotation marks, I'm aware you most likely made these mistakes on accident.
I don't want to seem critical, but could you remove the personalizations and just update for compatibility? Some of the modifications I see are at odds with the intention of the HUD, and I'd prefer to use the HUD the way it was designed rather than with somebody's customizations.
nimtraI don't think I'll move the control point icons down, the HUD was made with competitive players in mind and I don't think any ESEA match would be played on Junction.
My suggestion would have been to see if you can move the 3rd control point down and not alter the other existing control points, perhaps this isn't possible.
Where in the HUD files is "EventColor"? I can't find it anywhere.
You have to add it yourself under CDamageAccountPanel in huddamageaccount.res, it works exactly like PositiveColor and NegativeColor. Here's mine, for example:
"CDamageAccountPanel"
{
"fieldName" "CDamageAccountPanel"
"text_x" "0"
"text_y" "0"
"delta_item_end_y" "0"
"PositiveColor" "255 255 255 255"
"NegativeColor" "255 255 255 255"
"EventColor" "owTEAMRED"
"delta_lifetime" "1.25"
"delta_item_font" "Oblique21"
"delta_item_font_big" "Oblique21"
}
Not very many people know about this, I guess.
I don't think I'll be creating a 4:3 version for the buff overlay, sorry. I have only met like, 6 people that use 4:3 resolution on a day-to-day basis. I also won't be animating individual health crosses. OW does this, but I'm not exactly sure how I could do that.
That's alright, I will try to do this myself and post my results. Theoretically this could be done by animating text-based or image-based crosses with different timings under the same event. I don't have OW so I have to find a video I can use as a reference.
EDIT: I'd like to request a low ammo animation, perhaps you could create an orange AmmoWing as the indicator. Also, I double-checked your GitHub repo and you didn't remove the sticky icon on shields.
